Growing up I was lucky my family loved sports. We lived in RI and then Western MA and my Dad took me to the old Sunset league games at Cardines field in Newport as my first memory of a game attended. Over the years we went to the Prov Civic Center to watch PC games, Fenway, the Garden, and Schaefer. Growing up in the 70's & 80's the Bruins, Celtics, and Pats all contended and the Celts gave us the championships.

Of all the games I ever attended my all time favorite was when we beat down Peyton Manning in the AFC championship with Ty Law just owning Manning all day. The atmosphere in the stadium was insane. My wife bought tickets the week before the game when the Pats announced they would open up phone lines for a few minutes. She called and got through and we got 7th row 50 yard line seats for face value! No one in the stadium sat down the whole game and it was so loud! Every snap the crowd was screaming. The Colts got beat down mentally and physically that night and it was awesome to be a part of the AFC Championship trophy presentation and listen to live post game speeches from field level. A close second for me was that same season my wife and I went to the snowbowl game against the Dolphins and got to be a part of a pretty cool atmosphere for that game as well. They were expecting around 15,000 and got something like 45,000 in attendance. If you got to the gate they let you in and didn't even check your tickets. Back then I lived a couple of miles from the stadium and it was an easy drive for my Jeep Wrangler. We had 2nd level seats and you had to make shift shovle your seat out. People were belly sliding down the aisles. Very fun game and we clinched the AFC East with the win.

It kinda seems like the Pats crowds now are very L.A. like and laid back. Show up late, not get into the game unless something good happens and bail out when the going gets tough. Maybe it's just me but the Razor seems softer now. I hope the people that go this weekend show me different.

I meant to post this in the Sports forum so Mods please move it over there if you like. Sorry about that but the Pats tickets thread got me thinking about starting this thread in the Sports forum.

When I was a youngster, going to Connie Mac seeing the Mets:Phils. One Saturday went to a double header, like they used to schedule them back-to-back, not make up game. Anyway the first game went 18 innings and we still had the second game to play. Can't remember who won, but watching 27 innings of ball in one day really sticks in your mind. Loved that Connie Mac stadium, just had to watch out where you parked or pay some kid to watch your car (if you wanted the antenna and hubcaps still mounted)!

I would have to say that seeing Carl Yastrzemski's last 2 games would be the best for me! The Saturday game was "YAZ DAY" and they were playing the Indians that weekend! My girlfriends Dad was President of Cambridge Savings Bank and he had gotten us 2 front row seats by the visitors on deck circle! It was a great ceremony and as many know, Yaz did his goodbye lap afterwards and being in the front row I took a great photo of Yaz coming down the 3rd baseline towards us high fiving the fans and waving and then I got to give Yaz a high five myself as he went past! Very exciting for me!

His last game I had standing room seats and was all over the park taking pictures that day! Yaz popped up in his last at-bat and I was by the Sox dugout! As he came off the field that day to a standing ovation he handed his game hat to a young boy sitting next to the dugout! (Lucky Kid) I thought that was a nice thing to do!

Sidenote: Went to Cooperstown 5 years later to see Yaz inducted along with Johnny Bench! Great weekend!

I was at that Indy game also, but not in the 7th row 50 yd line :eek: great seats :btu: JohnR and Clammer were there too in the snow that game, I remember John wearing his Aquaskinz. Great game, I'll never forget it , I watch it sometimes when NFL replays it.
I couldn't have been further from the field, very last row way up behind the lights, atleast it wasn't as cold as it was the week before.

I can remember being at a Bruins game in the 2nd row from the glass and Wayne Cashman wailed the crap out of some guy right in front of me, he was tough.
Been at many Larry Bird games at the old garden standing room tix, bleacher seats at fenway catching a Jim Rice hit ball back freshmen year at Northeastern sept. 1978, that was cool.

The AFC champ game against the Jags in 96 was cold but the crowd was so crazy and loud and they won so I didn't mind the numbness, that was a great game too.

The AFC Championships are up there for what they mean, but to be at the Dolphins/Pats game throwing "snow fireworks" is something I will never forget.

We usually tailgate for the games, but we ended up taking the train up. Had to stop twice for a "plow train" to clear off the tracks. Got there about 20 minutes before kickoff, and pretty much ran to get in on time. Caught the opening kickoff heading up the ramps to our seats.

Another thing I will remember about it is just after Tedy's pick-six, a guy who sits behind us came up the stairs, sat in his seat and said "OK, I made it" and got up to leave. We asked him where he was going and he said "My car is parked on Route 1. Just wanted to be here. Gotta get out there before it gets towed"

MC, I couldn't agree more about how soft the fanbase has gotten at Gillette. Every game I go to I leave with a pounding headache and no voice. Our seats are in Section 311, Pats side, on about the 30 yd line. I have heard stories about security telling people they have to sit down because people behind them can't see!!! I got into an argument with a guy who told me to sit down. This was at a playoff game. Needless to say, I didn't sit. So he either left or stood up.

While I can appreciate that the club seats most likely prevented me from having to pay a PSL, at least 50% of them are not true fans. Even the warmer games a LOT of those seats are empty.

People want to say they were there..........but want to sit on their ass and watch it like it's on TV. Shouldn't be able to have it both ways.

I saw the US get screwed by the refs. and lose to the Russians at the 1972 Olympics. Also, saw UConn mens BBall team win 2 NCAA championships. I have a special spot in my heart for the 1983 superbowl when I spent the night with a Ram cheerleader.

My most memorable sports moment wasn't an important game, it was just a regular season Celtics game at the ORIGINAL "Garden".
The Celts were playing the Lakers, and I had seats in the balcony, behind the basket.
Back then they weren't as strict with section access as they are now, so during the second quarter my kid sister and I wandered down to the floor level to try and get some pictures.
We were able to literally stand right behind the basket and sit on the foam platform the hoops were mounted on. At one point we almost had players fall on us as they had been driving in for a lay up and came down on the foam padding (where we had been sitting). That was when the "security personnel" asked us to get back to our seats.

I also got M.L. Carr's autograph that day, since he wasn't in uniform.

My brother works down near Fenway for a food vendor, and has met many of the Red Sox after the games, but that's HIS story, not mine.

I looked up and saw this guy, looked like he was a freakin giant, although 6'2" at #230 which was big for a running back then, with thighs
as large as telephone poles, with a bleeding gash at the top of his nose.
It was Jim Brown and i said to myself, how the H could you ever wrap and tackle
this guy head on running at you, let alone even walking at you. :D
Big smile from him, one of the very best greats.

AFC Play-off Patriots vs Jacksonville. My Daughter's High School Class hawked the Coco and HotDogs for half of Foxboro Stadium. It was frozen-arsed cold. A fan who over celebrated the GreenBay game before hand took a swing at me and I handed him over to Security who arrested him. Spent the rest of the game making coco in the cellar and watching the game on TV there..Great night!!

The AFC Pats vs Indy waaaaay up stairs 300's, wind and snow but who cares...it was a blast. I had great seats for game 7, Boston/Montreal playoffs, Patric Roy in net at the old garden, place was electric from start to finish I think the final was 7-3. I remember out side the garden a lot of fans hadn't left and we where chanting "we want the cup", fans where off the wall.. It was nutts!!

75 world series between Boston and Cincinati. Sat right behind home plate for 2 games. Also 2 playoff games. Had a friend who's next door neighbor was the PR Manager for the sox so we got the prime location tickets at face value. Unfortunately that connection has been lost.

Awesome , people going nuts / some girl was all over me in the parking lot when we were leaving /she was just so f$%^&*9 excited they won .

& to make things even better /Slip had invited us to hang @ his Brothers RV .before the game . sitting in a warm RV / doing food watching the pregame on TV & then getiing invited back to the RV to watch the 2nd game & let the traffic gooooooooo /& Slips brother pulls out a victory cake ;;

Celts championship game a few years back against the Lakers is one for sure. I also remember a playoff game where they came back from a ton down in the forth. I had a great time at the Patriots foggy start against the steelers in the playoffs the year they made the superbowl with Bledsoe.

Oh yeah not a single game but all those redsox games as a kid that my dad took me too - looking back those might actually be # 1 collectively for all the reasons and everything special about feeling like your on cloud nine when your dad takes you to a game @ Fenway. I think about that a lot now that I have a new son and since my dad passed afew years ago...

1978 world series game at The Stadium between the yanks and dodgers. yankees won it in extra innings or late in game, don't remember. my biggest recollection of the day was the upper deck in left field shaking when the crowd roared, and the guy in front of us throwing his beer in the air, and all over us when the yankees won. i still have a button i got that day "75th world series"....

Games 6 & 7 - 75 World Series, Sox vs Reds. Game 6 was such a high, 12 innings, Fisk walk off - I still get chills! Then being out of our minds excited for game 7....and it came down to the 9th, but there was no joy in mudville! :wall: I was in college at the time and got tickets in way right grandstand from a friends father who worked for the city.

Game 6 1967 World Series. First time ever to a big league game, as well as Fenway. I was ten, so details are those of my age... Second row seats, halfway between home and first base. I do remember the American flag buntings hung over the railings so clearly. Did not see Lonborg or Gibson pitch, but Petrocelli hit two out, and Yaz hit one. And they won!
But the best part as that I was taken by my dad......

I've been to a lot of great games, including four Super Bowls,since. But none tops that one, because Dad took me....

My older brother took me to my early ball games at Fenway (never saw a Sox game with my Dad) but we did go to alot of Grapefruit League games in Winter Haven when I was a kid! We used to go to Fla. every Spring! Saw some great games there with my Dad! Good times!:uhuh:

Cut class at Northeastern and with my buddies, saw Ted Williams last time at bat. What a thrill that was. First Pats game in Foxboro where we got caught in a horr endous traffic jam. Beanpot games the night of the storm of '78 where we just made it back to Gillette on the last train and was stuck there for 5 days. Boy was my wife pissed! Bruin games with Bobby Orr, Hodge, Cashman and the rest. $5.00 to the guard at a back firescape then up to a locked door when with the right knock, Lefty opened it and we were in a beer stand in the third balcony. Nice to have a friend from Southy.

Another game that kinda sticks in my memory is my first football game. 1959 I think. I said kinda sticks. WVU at home, just down the street from my GrandMother J's house in Morgantown. My Aunt and Uncle were on the faculty there. A night game, they used a white ball with black stripe. I'd almost bet looking back that they played Pitt, everyone was all excited and that game remains a huge rivalry.
