I've been looking at a couple of spray booth designs (Charlesto/ProfessorM) and am going to put together something similar. However, I was wondering about the necessity of building in a plenum chamber and if its necessary on a small booth? Any info would be appreciated.

There are a few things that will determine if you want a plentum.

The size of the hood.
Are you painting one lure at time?
What type of exhaust set up. (fan size)

If you are going to paint one at a time in a small hood there should not be a problem. Make sure the air flow is not too strong or turbulent at the lure in hood.

a plenum is needed for even draw of the overspray across the filter.

I am in the process of building a new spraybooth myself. Going to put 2 or 3 239 cfm axial fans in it.

Can someone explain the "plenum" concept here? I am a IT manager, and only time I have heard plenum before is for plenum rated cat 5 or cat 6 cable, but I don't think I want a network drop in my spraybooth :)

Does it refer to airspace between the back of the unit with the fans and the filter?
