I can picture it now,when it warms up, too cold at 27 :rolleyes:, a yuppie parent, with paper in hand,
allowing his kids to go outside so he can engineer it for them.
They are raising a bunch of wimps.
What ever happened to ice on the pond, skating and playing hockey all day, lucky if the rich kid was there with his goalie pads, going home for supper going back out for another pick up game or sleigh riding till 10 PM. :huh:
Only thing your mother would say as ya flew out the door, "do ya have your mittens". :hihi:
Ninnies and wimps i tell ya, ninnies and wimps.
Tagger 01-09-2010, 06:19 PM Hey Dave ... What's the differance between snowmen and snowwoman ?
PRBuzz 01-09-2010, 06:23 PM Hopefully (but not always) the men have balls..........:happy:
spence 01-09-2010, 07:25 PM I think articles like that are more to get the parents off of Ebay and out with their kids doing something outside.
The snowman I made with my son last weekend had gingersnap eyes.
A squirrel was trying to get at them all week.

Clammer 01-09-2010, 11:31 PM I think it was written & posted because .this generation has no clue about building a snowman / snow fort / igloos/ snowballs fights /
they might know all about computers , ipod, texting , etc
the majority would get lost in a empty parking lot ;
Not intended to be read by members who have their kids & some them selves in scouting ;
I think if they get in a good/ active troop .. balls to the world for them :gh:
Crafty Angler 01-10-2010, 12:04 AM The best toboggin we ever had when I was a kid was the upside down hood from a '52 Chevy on Suicide Hill (near King's Park)...:spin:
I doubt I'll see any of these kids today doing that on the hood from a Beemer after a good snowstorm...:no2:
Karl F 01-10-2010, 06:51 AM order one for each of the grandkids Dave..
:rolleyes:
Decor Snowman Kit (http://candy-crate.stores.yahoo.net/desnkit.html)
justplugit 01-10-2010, 05:04 PM Clammah, ya forgot to mention ice balls. :D Prolly get arrested and serve 3-5
if ya threw one now a days. They could poke your eye out. :hihi:
Crafty, if you didn't have a "Suicide Hill" near you when you were a kid you'd
walk miles to find one. :)
Karl, that kit is the answer, let's see,$28.99 for each snowman, all plastic so
you can recycle and ya don't have to look for sticks. :D
I think there is a snowman game for the Wii

I grew up in flat southern NJ, we did car sledding! Grab onto the car bumper and away you go through the town streets. On good days we would have 3 lines of sleds, 3-5 sleds per line being pulled by a single car. The first guy used arm/hands to hold the bumper but after that each person put his feet into the steering mechanism of the sled behind. Wasn't unheard of to be going 20+mph...........Luckily SNJ didn't get snow that often! Less chances to kill ourselves.
fishbones 01-11-2010, 10:01 AM This is the snowman my son and I built last week, and he did most of the work. I had to assemble it because it was too heavy for him to lift, but he did most of the rolling and decorated it. It looks dirty because my leaf blower broke and I never got to raking that part of my back yard. All the leaves and twigs got picked up when he was rolling the snowballs.

everyone in the city had to have a suaside hill
but what we did .. was called hookieing / kinds the same deal with the freight trains
we would crouch down low when a car made a corner & we would sneak behind it @ grap the bumper & we would get pulled on our boots / if too many kids grapped the same car , we could slow it down til it got stuck or pull it out of control went it went to make the curve ;
Our snow plows were our city garbage trucks & we would do the same thing ,,,but they really gave you a tow .
the guys that did it with shoes un .often would start to go under the truck ,cuz they were going faster than the plow .
the real challange was because we couldn,r see anything ...if & when they hit a dry patch . damn we could take a serious tumble;;
just another day in the city .,.,,

The Dad Fisherman 01-11-2010, 11:42 AM Bumper-Surfing....same thing
MarshCappa 01-11-2010, 12:33 PM What a deal! My kits go for $20. An extra $5 and we'll come over an make it for you while you watch from the comfort of your own living room!
PRBuzz 01-11-2010, 01:44 PM Bumper-Surfing....same thing
Ah the flexible flyer...........could take a beating and keeping on sledding. Remember fondly those sparks flying from the metal hitting the bare pavement.
Ever try bumper surfing on ice skates, I have! Took really special road conditions to get out the skates.
justplugit 01-11-2010, 08:09 PM Nice to see youze guys kids having a good time. :)
Flexible Flyers. :btu: Wipe down the runners with some fine steel wool,
apply a thin coat of candle wax and "ditch" every sled you passed after
doing a running sart "belly flop". :D
Karl corrected me, it was parafin wax that your Mom would use for canning
and jarring. :hihi:
allchumdup 01-12-2010, 09:58 AM We had a suicide hill on a Queens golf course! It was suicide because if you went to fast to turn at the bottom you smashed into a chain link fence! Most of the time there was ice and water at the bottom and the sled would stop and you would keep going! It was tuff explaining that one to mom. The best was sqeezing 5 guys and girls on a car hood. If you hit a bump you were airborn. Lots of broken bones at this place, but gee was that fun!
