I think its a 14 hr trip... has anyone ever been? How was it, how long did it take to get to the grounds? I am dying to go.... have a little bit of cabin fever:fishin:

I went a couple years ago.We were on fish all day long.Everyone on board limited,except one poor bastage who was too busy puking all day,to fish.The fish were small,but there were plenty of legal ones.The Capt,and mates were great,and I heartilly reccommend them.
The bonus on those trips,is a shot at a Porbeagle shark.The year I went,they landed a few,and we had one on that day for awhile,got him on top,and he circled the boat,before breaking off.
It was probably between 3-4 hrs to the grounds.

I usually go out a few time every winter. A very well run boat. Over the years I've only had a few trips where the fishing was slow. Most of the winter trips I've mainly got market size fish. Bigger fish in late spring.

in the winter, this trip is not for the faint of heart.

don't bring young kids.

the weather is cold and the seas tend to be rough. if you don't plan for seasickness, you will hate this trip and wish you were dead.

transderm scop patch and warm clothes, hot beverages and food are a a MUST. also, if you are driving, consider crashing for a few hours after the trip before driving home. you will be exhausted.

unless you score a bunk early, you're going to be catnapping vertically in chair and cabin that is technically heated but still ... cold.

check in around 3 a.m., but you'll likely be there earlier to get a parking spot. trip out is about four hours. fish for eight. back in 4-4.5 hours.

bring a lot of coolers. george's bank cod is stupid fishing.

heavy jigs - 18 to 22+ ounces, IIRC are the rule. teasers on a dropper loop above the jig are very helpful in getting double headers. best colors are chartreuse and white.

beefy conventional tackle! 65 lb braided line and i would say 100 lb test mono or fluoro leader.

dragging up cod from 300 feet of water is hard work. i find it to be fun in 20 foot seas and 40 mph gusts, but my idea of "fun" might be a little different from yours.

your back will hurt from lifting sacks of flour from the ocean floor all day.

your wrists and forearms will be stiff and may even cramp.

your legs will be sore from standing on deck.

but, it's a hell of a trip.

p.s. don't bring young kids on this trip. transderm scop patch a must. dress warmly, bring food and warm beverage. rest after you get back to dock before driving home.

would someone mind posting a photo of your " cod " please . They must be a heck of an item to put up with that trip . We get a bin of them in 2 hours our legal minimum size is 35 cm

Wish we saw fish like that yesterday.
It was a good time, but the fishing was off, and it didn't help that the wind/current was whipping so you couldn't really connect with bottom, and if you did, it wasn't for long.

35 years ago we could get those in winter about 3 miles from the WH launch ramp. Fish to 49 lbs. Ugh! :wall:

Show off. Maybe this year I'll sacrifice my arms and back to one of the Captain's "Tuna/Cod" trips.

That fish could eat you.
You 'll be tunnel ratting the bilge on Capt Marks boat soon enough, to earn your way, hope your not claustrophobic.
Plus you'll be under seadog's watchful eye.
