Takes real balls by the CEO (presumably) to stop SALES until a problem's root cause is identified and fixed.

Toyota has impressed me greatly with their policies. Especially the rotted Taco frame fiasco. To cease sales on 8 models is really something.

but it's easier or i should say smarter to stop sales than it is to issue recalls
or deal with customer law suits when their vehicle wont stop
and they crash into another motorist who is then suing them.

already been several deaths and suits a comin'... not mechanical linkage..think more like a computerized rheostat type control..

hard line was that it was all the floormats fault..

until now.....
been about 3 years or so, since this problem surfaced... so.. it is high time, it is addressed....

my bosses 06 lexus.. at around 40-45... if you lift off, then gently go back on... zzzzzzzooooooom.....he neutrals it out, brakes, and shuts it down...
even with floormats out.

Wow , that's incredible. 8 models for a year?? It seems like they should be able to figure it out faster than that. Unbelievable.

the wife's Toyota Camry was doing that... and you could cruise around town doing 40 mph without even touching the pedal and it was the cable seizing in the hard metal tube for lack of lubrication.
I squirted that unsieze lubricant in there and the problem went away........

had to be an older model Raven.. no more cables or mechanical linkages..
all electronic now.

I understand the Fed's made that decision for them. PS My F-150 is still running like a top. ;-)

Ford has now stopped production of a model mfg'd in China which uses the same acceleration parts as in the Toyota.

I thought our new Avalon went fast...speedometer goes to 160...can't wait to see what happens when she makes a tactical climb at max acceleration on the Newport bridge.

I had the mat problem with my Doge truck, you want a WTF moment, it's a real eye opener when that baby take off while you're already doing 70 and the next thing you know you're doing 95 while you're trying to kick the mat off the pedal. That was it for those OEM mats.

Is China at the bottom of everything that's bad?

Pontiac Vibe is also part of this recall. It was assembled in the same plant as many of the Toyotas. The pedals in the Vibes were manufactured by the same company that provided the faulty pedals to Toyota.

Electronics parts = Toyota woes | CapeCodOnline.com (http://www.capecodonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100131/NEWS11/100139963)

so..how will shortening the gas pedal by 1/4 or even 3/4 cure the problem.. :duh:..
finally, they are starting to admit, it is in the electronics...and not the floormats
