View Full Version : Internet Explorer Lockups
Bob Thomas 02-21-2003, 08:42 PM Anyone having any problems with I.E. locking up on them? Just recently, I've been getting non-stop "Lock-ups" (Not Responding) with I.E. I have not changed anything at all and now all of a sudden, I'm forced to go into the "Task Manager" and "End Task" on I.E. almost everytime I log on.
Any cure for this???
JohnR 02-21-2003, 09:07 PM Which version?
Bob Thomas 02-21-2003, 09:14 PM John,
Not sure which version I had previously but I did the upgrade to the 6.0 the other day. Still locking up :smash:
JohnR 02-21-2003, 09:17 PM 6.1? I'm also having some problems with it locking up at work on Win2K but I haven't had a chance to investigate it yet. I'll let you know what I find. What OS are you running?
Bob Thomas 02-21-2003, 10:04 PM I'm running Windows 98 with a pentium 3.
Thanks in advance, John.
JohnR 02-21-2003, 10:09 PM I'll see if there is anything for 98 when I check it out. Do you know if it's 98 or 98SE??
Bob Thomas 02-22-2003, 01:04 PM John,
That I don't know. I believe it is just 98. Bought the computer about 2 1/2 years ago if that helps. How do I look for that info??
JohnR 02-22-2003, 01:28 PM Right click on My Computer, go to Properties, under System it will say Win98, Win98SE, or something like that
JohnR 02-26-2003, 09:47 AM Run the windows update to the latest IE 6.1 with the patched - will definitely take a while if you don't have high speed internet
Bob Thomas 02-26-2003, 04:56 PM Hi John.
I did the patch before and had the same problems.
Someone else mentioned using AdAware to see if I had any spyware. I ran it this am before going to bed and awoke to 216 files associated with spyware. I cleared them out and seem to be running alright now.
Also noticed that I have not had any pop-ups lately either. Maybe that was the problem. We'll see in time.
Oh yeah.....it's Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition if that helps
Thanks again for the help!
JohnR 02-28-2003, 10:10 AM Nice program - I've been a little slow on the uptake for Popup killers & spam & ad software - I like that...
I reran the 6.1 SP1 again and its been 2 days without a high speed, gear up, typical Microsoft landing...
BEETLE 03-09-2003, 10:46 AM I have the same problem with my PC - also running 98 - just printed this thread and will try the same to remedy -- thanks S-Bass.Com !!! (you never know what you can learn here !! )
:D :btu:
Megabyte 03-30-2003, 10:43 PM Try deleting the virtual memory file (swap file), shut down the PC and then restart and create a new swap file.
I've seen this on PC's that have been around and had updates to them. Strangers things have happened.
Hope it helps
Striperknight 04-23-2003, 06:07 AM Don't forget to check for a possible virus. Majority of the PCs I work on have one! IF you don't have a virus scanner get one.
