Any of you going to give fishing for holdover stripers or long trips to winter spots??

As noted in other threads, I'm thing about an excursion to the Thames with the SchoolieMonster as well as some potential holderver spots in Mass and Rhody... Granted these will most likely be all small fish, but :P

Anyone aware of other power plants holding fish?? I'm already getting really itchy - one of the first pure signs of withdrawl...

Hi JohnR, glad to hear the baby is home and all is going well, its really great isn't it. We really wish you all the best.

As for the Power plant in Plymouth, a friend of mine called me the other day and said that the power plant was being shut down on Nov. 27 until spring, so don't know for sure if that has been done. I suppose you could walk down in there if you can get in thru the main gate and park at the small lot in the upper area, but beware it is patroled, I do know that last year some guys went in there almost all winter, until the plant was shut down and the fish were killed. I do think there are fish there, I know Got Stripers was down there and fished it from boat the other day, he said he marked alot of bait but no fish, I think there will be fish there. I was also told from a very reliable source that a 9 lb ALBIE was caught there last Wed. a week ago. That fish surely must have been lost!!!!!!! It is worth a shot to check it out if you guys get a chance.

As for me, I am headed to PA at 4:00 am in the morning, going home to see the family for a few weeks and do a little hunting, hopefully my aim is still as good as it was a couple of years ago!!!!!! So I will be in touch, good luck to all if you get a chance to get out there.

Im tossing the Thames idea around in my head . they built a new pier across from electric boat 550 ft long . That is kinda south of the better spots . I do want to see if it is holding fish in the area . Have you or anyone else fished there

I'm definately headed to the Thames at some point, but with my weekend trip to the keys and Xmas coming, I don't see me getting down there until January. Based on what a couple NY guys from another board tell me, January is actually the best month for numbers. They report 50 fish per fisherman (boat anglers), which are on average 5-10 lbers. Those size fish might not get the #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& excited, but in January I'll take what I can get.

Might try to sneak in a meet with those guys on the 8th if the weather's good, if not then probably the first part of January. If it turns out as good as they report, I will no doubt be making return trips. Don't know if those guys will continue to meet me, if not, I've got room in my boat. Always better, and safer this time of year, to have a friend or two along.

I would also like to get out with some of you guys & gals and we will all have a serious case of cabin fever come January. I will post something substantial as soon as I know something.

I did find out that you will need a license if you fish 500 feet north of the Rt 1 bridge. The CT fish & game number is 860 424-3105 and you can buy a season for $25 (out of state) or 3 day permits for $8. Looks like there web site http://dep.state.ct.us/

has a download for out of state inquires. I didn't run the download, so I'm not sure if this is a means of buying the permit/license online or not. Maybe one of you guys that is planning on hitting it earlier than I am, can check that out for us.

Tight lines.

GS, That's what I heard about the Thames too. It starts to pickup in January. I guess last year wasn't very good compared to previous years but it is generally best in Jan/Feb...

Certainly on the list for this year...

FW - have a good time in PA, hug and kiss your mom for us!!!

I meant the pier has anyone tried it . I get out to the Thames in the last week of Dec ( im on recess then )thru january and february . Im a Ct resident and get my licence on Dec 26 or so at my local town hall . Let me find out what I can as far as getting them on line . All town halls have them come Jan 1 . A yearly licence is worth the $25 dont forget in May there is the enfield dam on the Connecticut river and the derby dam on the housatonic river with many large stripes being caught licence needed in both places .

Hey John, you and Bill want to get rid of the bug come Jan, Feb, March, let me know. All you have to do is hop on that ferry and I'll take you guys to NorthPort, its on the North Shore of LI, not a bad ride....Light pluggin rod is all you need along with light plugs, plastics and bucktails...I use freshwater bass sticks, fun on that stuf, especially when you hook into something in the teens, few 20's come out of there too.

I know this is not a striper trip but if anybody is interested in ice-fishing the South Shore of Ma. or the cape give me a reply. Looks like we may have early ice. Ditto on cod fishing either from shore in the canal or around Boston or a boat trip. I went on the Andy Lynn out of Plymouth last week and did well. Everyone caught keeper cod and HADDOCK! They are running every weekend weather permitting.

C'Ratt, a guy I work with went out last week on one of the party cod boats out of Plymouth. Only 5 keeper cod caught on the boat with 20+ people. But he felt it was more due to foul weather. The lines were paying way out as the wind pushed the boat, tough to keep the lines on the bottom.. I've been interested in a ditch trip for cod though. I don't know when.

John, Let me know when you want to try the ditch for cod, I'd suit up for that, time permitted ofcourse.

I may hit scorton creek later on also.

Hey John,

I'm shooting for either Christmas weekend or New Years weekend for a little Thames River trip.

I need to get my graphs wired as they are key to success. I'm going to try to do that this weekend.

Other hurdles include license & launch site. Not sure how long the CT DEP takes to send those licenses out, so I suppose I should decide dates soon.

Two long weekends in a row... should take advantage. Let me know if you think you might be able to get out.

Later.
