View Full Version : '10 Winter Olympics
Slingah 02-12-2010, 09:26 PM Watching the opening ceremonies now. I am super impressed with the picture quality. Looking forward to watching and it looks like FIOS has a way to see everything replayed. I'm a bit confused on that though.
Can't wait to see the camera work on some of the skiing.
Too bad about the luge guy......sad.
Let the games begin!!!!!
MarshCappa 02-12-2010, 10:06 PM Watching it as well. Saw the luge accident and my heart goes out to his family and team mates. I hope they pad that part of the course now. Holy crap that was a hard video to watch! Otherwise, I love the Olympics and the winter is my favorite! USA!
Mike P 02-13-2010, 03:59 PM I don't think that padding would have saved him. You go flying through the air at 135 feet per second, and come to an abrupt halt within 30', you're dead if you hit 24" of padding.
Whoever designed a course with a series of 7 steel columns mere feet from the exit from almost a 180 degree curve is a moron--plain and simple. Luge and bobsled runs are supposed to be designed to contain an upset sled within the run, and not have sleds and their riders go flying out of them.
PRBuzz 02-13-2010, 04:24 PM They made a solid wall today filling in the gaps between the steel columns. Also lowered the starting point to the "girls" level. A US luger called the track "boring now but safer".
Mike P 02-13-2010, 05:52 PM Yeah, and as of this morning they were still maintaining that there was nothing wrong with the run and its design.
The IOC is far and away the most corrupt organization in sports. The whole Olympic Games idea is a sham and a travesty.
stcroixman 02-14-2010, 07:17 AM I agree about the IOC being a sham. It's too bad because all the atheletes train their butts off with a dream of a gold medal.
Remember the '72 mens basketball travesty? Or the heyday of the eastern european soviet bloc judges lowballing western skaters or gymnasts?
ProfessorM 02-14-2010, 05:42 PM great Nordic combined today. Our first medal in that event. Short track skating was great last nite too and a Vermont girl got a gold last nite in moguls. Hurt my back and knees just watching that one.
spence 02-14-2010, 05:51 PM Just got a new HDTV for the basement :uhuh:

PRBuzz 02-14-2010, 05:53 PM Sweet! Plasma, LCD, DLP, LED or alphabet soup?

Nothing too fancy, just a basic 37" LCD to replace the 32" Sony I have for free in the classifieds.
I'm of the opinion that if you never look at the higher end TV's you'll never know the difference. That and I'm not into Bluray, so I'm not sure it's worth the extra $$$ anyway.
Was watching Rush R30 on DVD this afternoon with my BIG Polk Audio's cranked. My wife didn't like that :)

PRBuzz 02-14-2010, 06:15 PM I've had a 52" Toshiba DLP for about 5 years now. I think the external sound system is the key so you can FEEL the movie. Cambridge Soundworks T300 (2 x powered 10" sub) main speakers. Most of my watching is when no others are in the house, I just hope it doesn't rattle apart! The neighbors have not yet called and complained...:grins:
ProfessorM 02-14-2010, 09:44 PM holy crap those men's moguls is crazy. talk about on the edge of out of control. Congrats Canada.
