Read in the Globe today, they are going to put out fake nests with hard boiled (chicken) eggs laced with poison to kill the predatory crows attacking the poor little plover's nest.

So almost all the endangered terns stage off the Race and Coast Guard beach for the last few months of the summer. Looks like a recipe for full, summer-long beach closures. They *have* to close the beaches for the plovers in the beginning of the summer and soon, they'll *have* to close the beaches so that people don't disrupt the migratory patterns the endangered term.

Man, I'm glad I bought a kayak.

The part of that article that interests me is:
"She says eliminating crows would let the seashore reduce its protection of plovers at some beaches."

I doubt that would translate into fewer closures at the Race and more likely was just in anticipation of the outcry about them killing crows so that they can say "hey, this will benefit everyone."

This is a friggin ploy for REVENUE pure and simple.The word TAKE in all of it is the magic word.They're going to say if the sustainable numbers can be attained by letting birds increase in other areas then they will reduce the closures where human conflict occurs.Exampe...the Seashore spent a bundle at Head of The Meadows parking lot a couple of years ago.Then a plover nest in the adjacent dune closed the lot due to the buffer distance requirements.No Money!Pick a beach.This is what they're after.

Local shops and hotels that make money on the fisherman will need to speak out on lost revenue. Wonder if Rich has had any feedback from his town...

The common Tern is thee one most in residence on CC beaches as well as Sandy Neck and Plymouth. They are not endangered, but most people do not know the difference. I am sure the Botanists will close all the beaches claiming they are Rosette Terns !!! We need to hire professional Botanists to fight for the humans rights to the sand!!

I'd bet that most botanist can't tell the difference between a tern and a gull, need an ornithologist.....botanist = plants.
