I guess I'm not the only one having problems with the tails breaking off of the larger Storm Wildeye Shads.

I haven't bought any newer ones lately - has the manufacturer fixed the problem?

Call me lazy - but when I buy something I want it to work out of the package w/o having to thread thin wire or mono through the tail to beef it up.

I'm wondering if Got Stripers could improve on the concept...

The few times I've used them I did not have a problem with the biggins. Actually wish I'd used them sooner.

weewee when you say "larger" are you refering to the 9" ones? I noticed the same problem on the "smaller" swimbaits early on. You could actually see that the tails were attached later. Now they seem to be seamless throughout. I saw the 9" swimbaits at the Freeport show here in long island. Looks more like a boat lure to me than anything else. They have two huge hooks set closely along the back. I don't know if that would freak a bass out or what. Plus the fact that casting one of those puppies for any extended period of time would probably wear me out.:smash:

How was the Freeport show this year? That's usually one of my favoriate LI shows as far as buying shtuff. Gonna skip Suffern.

Ben--about the same as last year. The Surfcaster didn't have a booth this time around, that was the only big difference.

You heading up to the MSBA show next month?

It was decent. I got a chance to see Crazy Al and Kadirs new venture. It is a totally waterproof pullover top. Looks great! It's called Aquaskinz and I think it's gonna retail for around $200. It will be offered I believe on www.surfcasting.com (can I post that here?) Anyway that's Paul Melnyks website. I spoke to Billy the Greek and Mike Cinquemani for about 15 minutes or so. I bought his book and finished it in 2 sittings. Billy is quite a character. I envy his passion! I thought I was passionate about the sport! :eek: I didn't see Ron Arra ...was he there? I spoke to him last year at the Sports expo and he mentioned fishing with you I think. Billy Wetzel was there and I got a few more hints about Montauk from him so that was cool. Of course I bought a few packs of the Wildeyes...damn I love those! :D

I just picked up a few packages of them..The store I was in only had the 4 & 6 inch ones..The tails do appear to be one piece but very flimsy, although the price was $1 cheaper than in tackle shops...I never had a chance to use them last year but this year they will be put to the test..:D

used them all fall had no problems at all with any size except for an ocasional bluefish we used them in the weekapaug breachway all most all the time did have some success with using super glue on them when there was a small tear in them

I think me and the new bride are coming up, too. She's a fly fisherperson. She met Alberto, Kadir, Steve M and MNW at the Freeport show. We missed Al Goldberg.

Would be a pissah to get Alberto and Kadir to cross the bridge/take the ferry for the show. Heck, I'd offer them a ride. Hans is going, and maybe even the elusive Surfpirate, if he can make time. There are a ton of people who would love to meet them all.

Also, Kadir owes me a beer for mugging me of my fish at a certain sandy spot in Mass. ;)

If these guys just want to take the passenger ferry from Pt. Jeff to Bridgeport, I'd be more than happy to pick them up and drive them up, and put them up at my place if they wanna hang.

Yesterday Hans and I were trying to figure out who had the most significant butt impression on Alberto's couch. Hans has been on it longer, but my butt's much bigger. :laughs:

Which Wildeye shads have any of you had the most luck with?...

I found the 5'' Bunker to be the top producer of Striped Bass this past year.

I caught mostly Bluefish on the smaller sized shad...

Is there really a 9" version of these?

..I tried modifying those storms too...didn't really work, used mono to feed thru, more work than its' worth.....especially with them being SO CHEAP to begin with......

solution: buy more bags :D

I bought some 9" ones, they are huge. In the 4-5oz range, will make it tough for casting.
Think bridges:D I will be trying them out as spring herring imitations locally, Dangling them over some of our rivers.:soon:
The 5-6" are great lures, and cheap enough that I dont care if they tear up.
I sometimes use the 3" models as teasers too.

those wild eyes are terrible!! tails break off,hooks and weights pop right out the back.and the stripers can't stand e'm!! :laughs:

Hey Guys, just for fun I was out cod fishing near the B bouy and I through a few of the 5" on with a sinker and was jigging up cod with the Red/clear ones. They are a little flimsy in the tail but they will catch cod atleast. then again. Cod will bite a spark plug if it's moving. :)

i use the 6in. wildeyes. i don't remember seeing any weights on packages,anybody ever weigh one?

the weight is built inside the lure ,in the head part
