I wanted to go ice fishing this weekend, but not swimming ....it's been warm..

Can anyone suggest some safe ponds/lakes (or towns, I don't want to burn a spot) within an hour of Plymouth?

Thanks in advance

Should be plenty around...I'd just head west and you should find some.....there was a solid 18 inches in Georgetown last week

I agree. Head west or north.
One added point for safer (hint: think safety FIRST) is to see if you can enter from the western shoreline.
Since the sun is starting to climb higher in the sky, the western shores of any pond/lake don't receive the full effect of the sun.
The eastern shores, however, get full effect, and will be the first places to show melting and unsafe conditions.
If the body of water has a tree covered bank that rises sharply from the waters edge, even better. Think in terms of shade on the ice.
The less sun the ice gets, the less energy that gets through to heat up the pond bottom, and begin the melting process.

I've fished ponds that had 3-4 inches of ice (or les) on the east shoreline, but had 6-8 on the west.

Above all, be careful!

One benefit we have is that the ice on the ponds/lakes had frozen SOLIDLY, without several layers of frozen slush like in years past. That solid ice will last longer, so be sure to check the ice thickness on the ice if you go out over the next week.

With temps in the 40's, it should make for sloppy surface conditions as the snow cover melts.
