View Full Version : Surfcasting/Striper Clubs
chefchris401 03-07-2010, 08:25 PM Was interested in joining a surfcasters/striper club.
looking for club thats stands behind what they believe in, no drama, is run right, no bs, a club thats made up of people you would actually want to fish with.
I dont have a boat or really like fishing from a boat so looking more a surfcasting club I guess.
Looking to expand my knowledge and grow as fisherman and fish with like minded people.
any suggestions??? or clubs I should stay away from?
Thanks in advance, you can always PM me if youd like and keep things private.
Chris

Tagger 03-07-2010, 10:37 PM I'm curious ,, What are the RI fishing Clubs ? Lots of clubs in in Mass .. all i know is Shark River in joisey ..
piemma 03-08-2010, 04:17 AM Just my opinion so don't everyone jump ugly with me.
I have belonged to a ton of Clubs in RI over the last 40+ years. Up untill 2006 I was stricktly a surf rat so all the clubs I belonged to were surf clubs.
In my opinion, and this is just my opinion, none of the clubs are worth the time it takes to attend a meeting. Unless your objective is to get a trophy for bragging rights, it's just time better spent fishing.
There is always a bunch of BS involved, lots of egos about who wants to be an officer, etc. The only club I enjoyed was Thundermist in Woonsocket and that folded when Lanny Grazini died about 5 years ago. #^&#^&#^&#^& Cournoyer, who fishes with a lot of the guys here, on Cutty, was in that Club. We use to have a good time. All these guys cared about was catching big Stripers.
As I stated, I just find there is too much nonsense involved. I do belong to RISAA but mostly because of their PAC and the influence they can put on the politicians in RI.
Sea Dangles 03-08-2010, 07:24 AM The Newport Club would qualify.
JohnR 03-08-2010, 08:03 AM I'm in a few clubs I like, I know of others, no drama is hard. Newport is great, so good that they don't meet in fishing season ;) . CT Surfcasters is a great club. There are other clubs that I like and that I'm a member of (MSBA, 'Gansett) that are good clubs, do good work, and in many ways lead, but there is some drama.

Yes.
wader-dad 03-08-2010, 01:33 PM Yes the Connecticut Surfcasters Club is like the old Twilight Zone episode- A Stop At Willoughby.
When you get out of your car and walk towards the CSA meeting room you are transported to another place and time where life is slower and a man can live his life to the measure of his days.
This stop Willoughby.
piemma 03-08-2010, 03:03 PM The Newport Club would qualify.
