couple hundred shots..slideshow.. i recommend slowing the show down on the tol bar at the top of page...

starts at the CG station in Eastham flyes south to Monomoy, then truns north and flies back..stops taking pics around truru line...

some scary loss this winter... and might be more this spring...even without storms the berm edges will still be... settling.. for a while...
3-4 miles miles of inside trail at Nauset still loaded with water...and potential for more breakthroughs are obvious.

I saw a bunch of these and what little I know (not much) shows a lot gone, but as someone that know the area much better, how bad is it?

a news site based on the Breakthrough on North Beach (the southern end of Nauset Beach) in Chatham... (it is an old Chatham thing to call it North Beach, even tho it is on the south side of Nauset.... kind of like the fact you have to take 28 North in Orleans to go to Chatham, even though you head due south the whole ride...just another in the never ending list of CC WTF moments)
they have a forum board..no threads, just a non stop juggling of convrsation comments and a barage of erosion reports....

how bad...well in one word... Very...

It is not unexpected....we are alwasy told this is what is going to happen..
but now that so much has peeled back.. it does hit home hard..

there was salt water in places this time, that several natives and long time locals, had never seen it before... even the low lying buildings that ...count clapboards, or shingle courses to see if the water ran higher, are now much higher up the wall..

the shots near the end.. some of those homes up there in Wellfleet, are now right on the edge... I am in my mid fifties...washed ashore at age 11... I can remember when I was much younger, there being several footbal fields of acrerage between those houses shown, uphill in some places, to the dune edge... one in particular, if you step off the sundeck...your going straight downhill now...

Unfortunately... erosion only becomes an issue when you draw a line in the sand... be it a road or houses... it has been a stormy winter

Absolutely amazing!. I had to get my bearing for a few minutes. When I saw the CG Station at Chatham I was astounded. Pleasant Bay doesn't look at all the same. Looks like 2 breaks or more. The amount of new structure had me salivating if it were not for the seals. I think that the migratory staging will be somewhat different than in the past. The structure with the outer bar going for miles is just too much. If the seals disappeared the fishing would be like in the 70s with the second bar being the ticket to moby stripers.

great, beautiful, shots. Pretty soon Tern Island will be the only protection of Cowyard. Miss fishing that area, but not worth my long drive. Such a beautiful stretch. Mother nature can be cruel. Thanks for posting K.

exactly piemma... i think that was the first seal-less picture of the point on Monomoy i have seen in the last 2 decades... in another month or two, you won't see the sand... for the masses of stinky blubber bodies lying on them..

same at the public beaches.... only it will be more like 4 months and at least those bodies will have some kind of swimsuit on....;)

Pleasant Bay is filling with sand......Dr. Giese's theory is coming into fruition..
he says that Pleasant Bay, and little Pleasant Bay will end up being just a big old saltmarsh, as the barrier beach erodes, breaks up and continues it's westward migration.

This is all so sad. It makes my heart ache. We have lost so much--everywhere.

Great post karl.....Too bad they didn't shoot north of The Beach comber also.The last time I saw pleasant bay as high as it was,was during hurricane BOB on rte28 at the Har/Chat line.
