Thinking of upgrading reel for wetsuiting and canal. Can't decide between VS200 or VS250. What's your opinion? Thanks in advance

Don't have the rod yet either. Was thinking the VS200 but don't want to regret not getting the 250 after. May go with a rod I have now initially, probably 10ft m-h 3 to 6 oz range.

i say all of the above aswell and what are you looking to fish on it. If your looking to jig the canal and sling eels I say a 250 might not be bad, if its plugging then I would go with a 200

i dont fish the canal but with a rod with that rating i would say go with the 250, its only about 3oz heavier and has a nice retrive rate of 36.5in. i was just in ur spot and lucklie my fiance picked up a 250 for me and it matches great with my gsb1201m

Don't you'll spoil a good thing

I like a 200 on a 9 ft. and 10 ft. rod but prefer the 250 on a 10. You can't feel the weight difference of either when once you've mounted them on a rod but the 250 looks a little large to me on a 9 footer and it looks better than the 200 on a 10. It's all about looks.....lol. Either way you go you will be fine.

I have a 200, 250 and 275.

Go with the 250, it only a few onces heavier and holds alot more line. The size is almost the same.

I fish the 250 on everything from 10 to 12ft surfrods, and put it on my 8ft boat rod on the rare occasion.

I only use the 200 in the spring and on rods 10 ft and under.

I think the 250 is more versatile, and I know alot of people who bough a 200 then moved to the 250 the next season.

Why 275 over 300?
I have 250 looking to go with 300 for Montauk or inlet where I mite be casting rigs or 3, 4 oz buctail. I would like to have in time 200, 250 and 300 [275?].
Elsluggo don`t mean to high jack your thread, and I generally go with an over kill [meat and potatoe guy] but VS are great reels....
I brought 250 over 300 and couldn`t be happyer, many guys I meet said they would of went 250.

FYI - the 250 only weighs 0.8 ounce more than the 200, according to the 2009 product catalog specs.

The reason for getting the 275 over the 300 was the price. I scored a brand new in box 275 for Don from AH, spooled with power pro for short money and he threw in a plug! Thanks again Don!

found it easier to go slower with the 275 than faster with the 250, does that make sense?

Yeah, the 275 is sweet. I got one last year also used for real cheap but am going to put that on my pluggin rod and get a saltiga gt for jigging.. The gt is about the fastest reel you can get at over 50" per turn.. For all around beach fishing, the VS 200 would be my choice on a 9-10 ft. rod.

Just my personal preference (casting style etc) but when I'm trying to go for maximum distance my vs just doesnt get it done for me.

I go to an emblem with the tall spool to get the most distance I can get (topwater/tin), rod is an xra1322. Jigging I go with an allstar 1208 with an abu 7000 series reel . In both of those cases Ive got no intention of swimming or dunking a reel.

If theres a remote chance(wetsuit) that I'm going to be wading deep, taking waves or swimming I go with my vs.

Again just personal preference but I'd rather jig with a conventional dropping back and adjusting depth is easier with one thumb movement (disengage pay out line thumb the spool, pay out line get where I want engage) opposed to physically taking the line off the roller getting to where you want to drop back to, then placing it back on the roller (crap missed a hit putting it back on the roller)

In the end both the reels you mention will get the job done period end of story. Its just going to be a case of what you find to be most comfortable for the way you cast/fish etc.
