Well March is just about here, it's time for the weather to take a turn (hopefully). I figure 6-weeks until the boat hits the water again. Anyone else out there getting the itch?

Anyone else out there getting the itch? JohnR 02-25-2003, 09:27 AM Anyone else out there getting the itch? I'm bleeding from head to toe I'm scratching so hard! DYING to get out there B-assman 02-25-2003, 11:05 AM So - what's the first spot you're planning to hit when the ice melts? I've just bought a boat and am dying to get out there. Not really sure where to go - maybe up the providence river? Should I be heading for the relatively warmer waters of the upper bay or to rocky structures near the mouth of the bay (e.g. Beavertail?) Any advice appreciated. Thanks JohnR 02-25-2003, 11:20 AM Welcome to S-B. Can be a screwy time to find them as they can be anywhere in the river or in some of the salt ponds. I could be wrong but I think the Tail might be a little early in March what size boat do you have ?? B-assman 02-25-2003, 11:41 AM Just closed on a Scout 185 (18' 5") with a suzuki 140. Looking forward to getting her in the water and doing some fishing. I realize that the fish will be pretty scarce in March - what do you think is the best bet? Trolling with a tube? Jigging with diamond jig? Live bait? I'm basically clueless - but willing to go thru trial and error. Where do you find the best fishing reports? I assume that once people start catching fish - it must heat up on this board. This looks to be the best RI bbs for fishing. Any others you'd recommend? Thanks 179 02-25-2003, 12:41 PM Bassman, Congrats on the Scout!!! The Scout line is one of the best out there and I am sure it will treat you right. If I recall last year we had mackeral running off of Point Judith in the Nebraska Shoals area, they were plentiful and fun to catch this was mid April, the Striper fishing really did not turn on until May, then it exploded.... JohnR 02-25-2003, 12:56 PM Bassman - is that a Viking Marine boat? :D Nice rig... Couple things I would recommend. You might want to be careful way up inside the Providence but they might be there or over off Wickford but I'm catching them from shore at this point and not chasing them by boat. Come late April you'll be loving it :) Oh, and this is the best site for Southern New England (but I'm biased ) B-assman 02-25-2003, 07:07 PM John - thanks - Yes it I did get her through Viking - Scott and his crew have been great to work with. Thanks for the wickford tip - I just figured out the "bias" - sorry about that -newbie mistake - great site you're running here. Scotch Bonnet 02-25-2003, 07:58 PM You gotta do the West Wall thing first. Gets all the cob webs out. Leave the boat at home though, unless you like getting pelted with 3oz bank sinkers:D Nice boat - fishing RI? JohnR 02-25-2003, 08:12 PM There are no fish at the West Wall! (not yet anyway :soon: ) I met Scott a month or so ago - the most unsalesman like boat dealer I've met in a while - seems like a good guy :btu: denis 02-26-2003, 12:53 PM B-assman, Providence is good put the boat in at Collier Point and it's a short ride. Good luck with the boat and be safe. Billybob 02-27-2003, 03:30 PM Yo Bassman, welcome aboard.Nice boat, love the lines of those Scouts. Can't help you though, I'm from Ct. Second Sienfield moment of the day for me (hint:try calling the Sears parts # - it's hilarious!) Bill B-assman 03-03-2003, 05:00 PM Billybob - You're the first to recognize the seinfeld reference - I must admit Im a bit baffled by the Sears parts number clue - but I'll stew on it to see if i can figure it out.
