I got a letter from Liberty Mutual saying they will no longer carry my boat insurance. NICE,,,,, after 16 years !!!! So I called to get the skinny. They said they will keep me if I carry a major policy with them (like my homeowners) YEA RIGHT what a scam. I said flat out NO...and told them I would just get another policy with someone else.. "Well sir,, any insurance carrier will require you to have a major policy with them to carry your boat also"....SO they flat our lie to me !!. I was pi$$ed. Told them they didn't know what they were talking about and I can get insurance anywhere for a boat. End of conversation.

So now I'm in the market for new insurance and my club requires 1/2 mil. environmental damage coverage and 300K indemnity. I understand they need to cover themselves too. No big deal.

So...I did a Boat US online application and will see what they chrage.
I thought SeaTow carried insurance, but I dont see it on the website.

I know this was in an old thread, but what carriers do you have luck with?

Thanks....I got to get this settled before launch time, the club marina won't let boats in until the see the proper insurance coverage.
Sign of the times I guess.

Boat US was cheapest I could find. No layup defined like others, you can take a spin all winter.

I just did an onilne application, waiting for a reply/quote.
But I have heard they have great prices.
So im keeping my fingers crossed, I'll let you know.

Apparently I have to join boat US to actually get the insurance.
Thats an additional 25/Yr.

Call them vs waiting for the response to online inquiry if you are in a hurry. Yes you have to join BoatUS. You can even get ice damage coverage along with the 12 month/yr onthewater coverage.

I know for a fact Boat US, Sea Tow, (affordable) ins companies won't give you a policy if you charter or any other commercial fishing.
In fact only a hand full do write those policies.

Amica has all my business, I was able to drop some of the individual coverages lower with an umbrella coverage over it all.
but i don't commercial fish.

Got an email back from BoatUS.
200 and change....done deal, and that includes the 25 bucks for membership. I have to take a few pictures, hull #, exterior/interior etc... and email them to them, then they write it the way my marina wants it and I'm all set.

I don't think I would be able to beat that price.
I was paying more at Liberty Mutual, so I guess I should thank them for dropping me, saved me enough $$$ for a 1/2 tank of fuel (Maybe!!!).

Maybe there are some other benefits to being a BoatUS member :huh::huh:

I have Liberty Mutual for all my insurance EXCEPT my boat. They told me they could not match the price I got from Progressive. I pay $156/year for full 12 month coverage of $17,500 for the boat, motor and trailer with another $5K rider for electronics and fishing equipment. 2003 18' Sea Hunt CC with a 90HP Yami 4 Stroke.

Well then I think I should contact progressive. I could always use 50 bucks.

Did you apply online?

Check to see if your club qualifies for the 50% Boat/US dues discount; most do.
BTW, have had Boat/US for over 20 years; while no claims filed, my brother did and had a check the 2nd day after the event with no quibbles.

Insurance premiums vary a lot. so does the coverage. If you get an agreed value policy, the payout is listed on the policy. Fair market value is another story, The Co pays what they consider fair. The agreed value policy is more money than the fair market. You may be able to save money by writing the liability on your homeowners policy. Boat US only writes FMV policies last time I checked.

Van: I did not apply online. I went through my independent insurance agent, Blackman Insurance in East Greenwich RI. Richard Blackman is the principle.

Paul:

I did a Progressive online application and it gives you the rate instantly, I could even change the limits on some coverages and see the premium change. The bad news was either way it was 100 higher than BoatUS. The site said better to call as the numbers did not match, so I can still try that.

I also have a call into my agent that carries all my other stuff, so I am still waiting for them to get back to me.

Yea this boat is 21 and I don't charter from it.
The next boat I will though !!!!!!

I called progressive and they could not beat BoatUS.
They were about 100 higher.

So I only have one more quote to get. Learned alot during all this.
Now I have to uncover and take pics.

I know as soon as I uncover the weather will turn to crapola !!!
