View Full Version : heads up for the RISAA show
redcrbbr 03-17-2010, 01:18 AM Just wanted to let everyone know this weekend parking could be a tad more difficult. Reasons to follow..
NCAA Tourney games all day Thursday and Saturday
Water fire on Friday
Mary Kay convention Friday thru Sunday
RISAA show Fri thru Sunday
Parking is going to be at a premium, I suggest get there early.

Ouch. That sucks. At least they won't jack up the parking prices. :wall:
PaulS 03-17-2010, 08:36 AM If anyone has extra tickets to the game, let me know. Otherwise we may have to scalp them.
Thanks
Rockport24 03-17-2010, 09:26 AM yikes, maybe I'll do what I did one year and park over by Brown and walk over! yeah...it was kinda a long walk but it was free!
ProfessorM 03-17-2010, 09:41 AM where the hell to park than. I don't know the downtown area at all. Last year I got a 120 dollar ticket for going wrong way Feldman on one of those college area roads. I'm going on Friday.
BigFish 03-17-2010, 09:42 AM yikes, maybe I'll do what I did one year and park over by Brown and walk over! yeah...it was kinda a long walk but it was free!
And its gonna be a beautiful weekend for a walk!:walk:
fishbones 03-17-2010, 10:28 AM Don't forget the St. Patricks Day parade and 5K road race on Sat. in Providence. I believe they both start at the State House which is near the convention center. They're gonna have some of the streets in the downtown area closed on Sat. :fury:
Race starts at 11:15 and the parade starts at noon.
Redsoxticket 03-17-2010, 11:23 AM Checkout RIPTA bus schedule online and park outside the congested areas. Cost is about 1.50
You can park as far as Newport or Narragansett. The commuter lot on 114 in Barrington is a good option for folks coming from 195 east of RI

JackK 03-17-2010, 11:36 AM It's a nightmare to drive through providence when the waterfire is going on, too... Last year I went in there on one of those nights not knowing it was happening, and was stuck in traffic for about two hours.
Sounds like public transportation may be the way to go, even on Friday...
Mary-Kay convention...oh-oh...
Aggressive, pyramid-scheming cougars...
DJ Muller 03-17-2010, 11:57 AM Sounds like a cluster .... waiting to happen!
But that will just add to the fun! :jump1:
I'm gonna have to figure some place to park and walk-any, suggestions will be most welcome. What is a good area to park in?
How about a GPS address that will put us close...but not too close.
BassDawg 03-17-2010, 12:03 PM parking at me Mum's house in NPT
is sounding better and better all the time.
i am planning on getting there around 0500,
but it sounds like leaving will be the dilemma!!
how's about parking at the Providence mall??
WESTPORTMAFIA 03-17-2010, 12:34 PM Mary-Kay convention...oh-oh...
Aggressive, pyramid-scheming cougars...
:biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:
Those GPS devices are confusing. Just turn right where the old Almacs used to be.
The Dad Fisherman 03-17-2010, 12:44 PM Mary Kay Cionvention was there last year.....I remember :humpty:
Crafty Angler 03-17-2010, 01:54 PM Mary-Kay convention...oh-oh...
Aggressive, pyramid-scheming cougars...
Joe, you say that like it's a bad thing...:laughs:
Adam_777 03-17-2010, 05:11 PM I park in the mall parking lot and walk through the tunnel down the stairs through the hotel and across the street.I don't camp at the show so it works for a couple hours in and out.Haven't trucked a rod through the mall yet either but I wouldn't hesitate if the right rod ended up in my hands for the right price.
Hookedagain 03-17-2010, 05:37 PM Picking the boy up from school and heading to the show, should be there by 3:30. Hope its not too bad at that time. Usually hit the parking garage and don't have any trouble as long as you're there early.
striperman36 03-17-2010, 05:46 PM Mary-Kay convention...oh-oh...
Aggressive, pyramid-scheming cougars...

Thumper 03-17-2010, 07:15 PM i suggest anyone that is going, park in the mall. it is ur safest bet and a short walk across the sky bride and through the westin into the convention center. parking in the mall is the cheapest parking in providence.

No issues....just a warning in case you find yourself being tailgated by pink Cadillacs....
piemma 03-18-2010, 02:46 AM And its gonna be a beautiful weekend for a walk!:walk:
Exactly the point. TOO beautiful to be indoors at a trade show. I will not be going this year and will be outside somewhere in the sun.

Mall parking secure? Providence has a high crime rate and one of the highest rates of car theft as well, correct? Heading down fairly early Saturday and was already concerned about parking. Name of mall? Not familiar with the area since the last time I was there was in 1983 for a Kinks concert.
WoodyCT 03-18-2010, 10:46 AM i know for a fact that those mary kays really dig guys in hoodies and ball caps :uhuh:.
REAL men.
Not them metrasexuals they deal with all the time.:uhuh:

Use caution though. The wife is sure to get suspcious if you come home really late smelling powdery and sporting a back ache.
fish4striper 03-18-2010, 11:39 AM Park at the mall and walk over:
Providence Place Parking Rates:
0-3 hours: $1
3-4 hours: $5
4-5 hours: $7
5-8 hours: $10
8-20 hours: $20
20-24 hours: $25
UserRemoved1 03-18-2010, 05:01 PM Place was a %$%$%$%$in zoooooo on the way out at 5pm. Protesters in front of the hotel, big big police presence.
Thumper 03-18-2010, 05:46 PM its providence place mall. the mall i would say is pretty dam secure. these days they have the security guards cruising around on their segways. just like any place you go tho dont leave anything sitting around in the car especially a gps or even the mount on the window for that matter.

Rockport24 03-19-2010, 12:36 PM yeah I think when we head down it will be good, Sat is gonna be the real Cluster F!
Swimmer 03-19-2010, 05:02 PM What are the protesters protesting?
slow eddie 03-19-2010, 05:08 PM cut wages 20% for the help. that has to hurt.
just got back from the show. seemed like less than last year. generally takes 2 hr; too go through everything. this year 1 1/2 hrs. this includes bs ing.
Clammer 03-19-2010, 05:13 PM Yeah S/E ,,but that meant you got to the strip joint sooner ><><><:jump1:
Mike P 03-19-2010, 07:42 PM yikes, maybe I'll do what I did one year and park over by Brown and walk over! yeah...it was kinda a long walk but it was free!
Park over on Atwells Avenue, and enjoy some good Italian eats after the show.
striperman36 03-19-2010, 08:00 PM the CC parking was 10 today, not bad
eelskimmer 03-20-2010, 11:23 AM Sounds like a real pain in the ass this year. Last
year I drove around for 20 minutes to find the
right road to get out of Providence. This year
heading to Monahan's for their show. Met a lot
of S-Bers at MSBA so I can miss RISAA with clean
conscience.
See ya on the beach!!
