I fished on last years "angler of the year" contender and thought it rode like a beach ball.Even on a flat day it was up and down at cruising speed.Nice boats to fish out of though.

It's made in Port Salerno FL, its made for flat ass calm, pin the needles run to the gulf stream action. Sittin still though she acts nicely, rocks a little to much for me though. What do you expect with all those ponies on the back.

I'll take an OceanMaster 27 with a diesel anyday I could afford it.

I dunno, I was pretty impressed last year with the ride on my buddy's new 38' Fountain CC with the triple supercharged Merc 300's

Of course, 2+ tons of fuel for ballast when it's topped off helps - and cruising at 50 MPH seriously cuts the commute time from the dock to the Block

I was always amazed at how quiet it was - and how much throttle was still left even at 50...

totally different boat. now if our wifes would only be quiet that long during an equivalent experience that would possibly last that long.

If its riding like a beach ball He either put a 4stroke off the back, guys are standing by the leaning post, or he just really doesnt know how to run the boat. definately to much wieght in the stern area. If he hung a 4 stroke off a 21 she is going to be ass heavy.... That boats perfect power is a 200 HPDI. Boat is only 2300 lbs so it is going to be sensitive to wieght... Friends of Mine that hungs 4S off the back have to use alot of Tab, or even but wieght up front, anchor...
I loved my 21, Never Ever did I feel unsafe in it and I ran out in just about everything, never missed a commercial day, tourney cause of weather. Rarely did I ever cancel a charter. Its an awesome handling boat in rough weather. i looked forward to fishing 20 Knots Plus.... I did have two near sinkings, but that was my fault... Went bigger to save the back and joints some, and to make my charters a much more pleasure... My first motor on that 21 had 2000 hours, I had way, way more anchor / drift time on her... Definately miss that boat.... And I would not put a TTOP on that boat! I dont know of a better riding true 21 on the Market, that 24.5 degree dead rise is awesome.... No other boat has it in its class.

The 21' contender is an awesome boat.Keith has a 23T and he knows how to run it as he fishes and charters quite a bit.Like I said, contender is a great boat to fish out of and a bargain too when you consider the features.Didn't your 21 have a 300 4 stroke?

i have been on quite a few 21ft center consoles and there aren't many that ride like the contender.i have a 21 ft steiger that was custom made xtra heavy. not the best riding boat but when you stop to fish or clam you have a stable plat form. that was one thing i didn't like about the contender tough standing up when fishing rough seas.

I didnt know you were talking about Kieth, I know he know what hes doing. Big difference in boats, every model runs different depending on the power options they were ORIGINALLY designed for... You sure it is the 23T?? Lori Marie is a 25 Open I thought for sure? What year is his boat and power? I know hes had the boat a while...I thought he had F250's on there. That boat was originally designed for 200 HPDIs... Reason I ask is they were hanging 4 strokes on the Pre 2006 models and it was to much wieght so they redesigned the 25 Open Hull in 06 to the New G2 Hull. 1300 lb motors is a lot of wieght back there. Throw another 385lbs of water in the livewell.. Or does he have the 23T with twin 200 HPDIs?? The Pre G2 hull was NOT designed for the additional wieght of the four strokes...I went with the 25 this year with the F250's. Still economical and easy to trailer. My 21 originally had a 200 HPDI, then I repowered with a 300HPDI, got a good price on it and the 200 was getting tired....

I am pretty sure it is the 25... I know he has been running a 25 since at least 03. I dont know what he did after that "Fog" incident. I know he used to have 200's. Not sure what year his hull is now and power... Does he even charter any More??? 2000 hours should not be an issue, keep up with the VST, clean that filter Every year, and make sure You use a semi synthetic oil... Penzoil semi synthetic is what I used from TheOilStore.com... Kieth's web site has been down a long time.... 10 years a member here come October!as far as the striper Cup, Its all in Fun, we bust eachothers balls all the time... You do know we are not going to make it easy for you for a threepeat! I know you guys did some recruiting and all ;-) Even signed one of my buddies! Competition keeps us young and dont get me wrong, we dont want it easy either! I assure you We are gonna hit hard from the Start! Now if you did want sponsorship deals should of talked to me! High pressure Direct Injection... Just like Merc DFI.. Nearly twice the efficiency as the older 2 strokes and less oil consumption...

Different Animal, different apps... My little 21 was efficient, 3-4MPG, easy to trailer,(I trailerd 15K miles a year), get in skinny water, great to get bait, launched it by myself 2,3,4 times a day at ramps that a bigger boat would never get into. Badd ASS Boat for an individual fisherman! Look at all the 21 contenders and 23 seacrafts in the NE... Good choice for individual commercial diehards! My boat paid for itself many times over... If I had no limits to boat price, Gas limits, Dockage, and so On I could find a monster Mono hull that can eat the 25 World Cat... For me its whats practical though... The cats are a bit of an eye sore ;-)

The big block HPDI's are fuel efficient... Only run on 4 cylinders under 1800 RPM... Great reliable motors. I think yamaha currently just makes a 200... Everything is going direction of 4S...

Ken his boat draws less than the 21 contender, can be launched by one person, and last I checked fish don't care about looks of a boat. He also paid less than what a 21 contender goes for. Apples t oranges I guess.

As for HPDI yammies; the 200 is generally considered the best 200 hp engine ever built. Bulletproof.

Went to the Block last year on a guys brand new 21' contender. We went out of Point J in seas that I wouldn't even be caught out in, never mind heading out into. That boat ran like a 40 footer. Dry, and comfortable, even in the 5 footers. I would by one in a heartbeat. Sweeeeeeet rides.

No Doubt they ride good, dont see many around out there... All of us Mono Hull owners joke about their looks! Yes fish dont care... I just talked to Mike the other day, how do you know him? He still has the motor...Im sure he'll tell you about some of the runs made in the 21... Him holding on for life in an 80 mile run up the chesapeke in 30 knot wind against tide! Hes got the Tuna Bug bad...It is apples to oranges.... FYI, I bought my 21 Contender brand new boat motor, trailer for 34K, sold it for 20K 7 years later with a repower that costed me 10K... I went down to NC with my buddy Rocco who bought a Brand new 2009 21 Contender,Boat motor trailer for 30K even, just had a 200 Opti on it... Lots of deals out there if you know where to look... What the new 25 world Cat go for???

Mike is a Tuna Junkie now!

The point is, my buddy bought a brand new one cheaper by about 12 percent 7 years later, more deals now. We all have to repower eventually or by something different. On a new 25 cat I would imagine 25-30 k just on motors and controls. If I ever start fishing the canyons I'm hoping it would be on a much bigger boat than I have now!

Mike let me take a look, I thought yamaha stopped making a 150 hpdi, and only make a 200 hpdi... Everyone I know has been going to the 4s... Have a few friends with f150's and they are sweet but yeah, 30 percent more cost... I went with twin f250' s on the new rig, twin 200 hpdi would of been a big savings but I wanted 4s... Better resale and I wanted max horsepower get good cruise mpg...

Mike actually misunderstood the question... Talking about 2s oil... You don't have to get the full synthetic that's way $$$. I have to look in there but there are two types of semisynthetics that were great... Yamalube went up way to much over the years, it's a semisynthetic...

yeah, I talked to a guy from the Town-he said plant was functioning but there was more flow coming in than what plant had been designed for.....untreated sewerage was literally overflowing the tanks and running down the street into the cove...there really isn't anything that can be done at this point with the 3 plants on the Pawtuxet. All in all, my understanding is that 8 plants in the state were bypassing.... I'm hoping that all will be well by the time fish start comin in.
But then mike, U remember the 70's ....didn't know what kind of fish U had till U gaffed it...water was that bad back then. And all the pogies and bass U could ever wish for....and THAT water was REAL DIRTY up river....

So maybe all the nutrients that will be borne by this dilemma will sustain the food chain in ways that defy imagination...or i'm just "waxing poetic"......

Who has the newish Black Toyo Tundra local plates, with the new contender with FLA plates on the trailer that I passed at warp 8 on 195 yesterday?
... I merely glanced over, to scope the boat out..but the driver of the Toyo was eyeballing me pretty good and smiling...like I should know him or something?

Had one of them fugly new Toyo FJ's ..yellow..shagging his rear, like they was travelling together

Striper cup sponsorship???

What exactly would a sponsor get out of sponsoring a contestant?

One could perhaps wear a hat emblazoned with FISHINGLOGCALENDARS.COM on the front while weighing in a winning fish. Photo gets taken and ends up on the cover of salt water sportsman.

That is correct!!! Sponsors also provide jackets, pants, shoes, socks, and underwear emblazoned with, perhaps, Fishinglogcalanders.com along with free product in exchange for the publicity, advertisement!

LOL! Coffee just shot out of my nose.

Let me get this straight, fishermen will rush to buy products because of photo of a guy that is wearing with a hat, that has an ad on it, in a nitch magazine, that few will ever see and that fewer subscribe to, that most have never heard of?

The striper cup is not the masters.

The striper cup is not the masters.

True, but the winner will likely be linked to a porn star anyways

I have been at fishing shows where reps are bragging about their products being displayed in cover shots. Be it OTW,the Fisherman, or Saltwater Sportsman. They are all "niche" magazines, however they do have an appeal to certain audiences and that is why all of these mags are filled with advertisements. If companies are paying to place an ad in the back pages don't you think a cover shot is worth more? While we are at it,isn't this a niche website that you promote fishinglogcalendars on? Duh.S-B.com is not google but it works for you.
