View Full Version : Embarrasing wet suit question.
Rob Rockcrawler 04-01-2010, 03:37 AM So i picked up a wetsuit this year, got a good deal on it. But i have one question that i think i know the answer for. So when mother nature calls... Do ya hop in the water or what? Its a bit embarrassing to ask but this is SB :).
How eles are you gonna stay warm:grins:
The Dad Fisherman 04-01-2010, 05:03 AM You should have thought about this BEFORE you bought a USED Wet Suit..... :hihi:
BigFish 04-01-2010, 05:31 AM Pee away I say! There are a few products you can buy and you should soak your suit in them periodically to clean them! Stink Away is the one I use I think? Very potent stuff and it does the trick!

I think I used that stuff: when the dog got sprayed by a skunk!:biglaugh:
rizzo 04-01-2010, 06:12 AM Get a 2 piece spearifshing wetsuit with pants. 10 times better than the one pieces and farmer john 2 pieces. They have a flap system thats easy to deal with.
Back Beach 04-01-2010, 06:17 AM Don't do it, don't piss yourself...go before you get in the water. If you get the %$%$%$%$ scared out of you while fishing that's an excuse...doing it voluntarily is just wrong...
When I wetsuit, which isn't very often(maybe 6-7 times a year) I scrounge a dip off Redlite right after we get off the ferry and it cleans me right out. Once I'm empty the wetsuit goes on and I'm usually good for the night....
PRBuzz 04-01-2010, 06:17 AM They have a flap system that is easy to deal with.
Front, back, both? Do they have male and female versions?
Mr. Sandman 04-01-2010, 06:44 AM Number 2 gets a little messy but I think aqua skinz makes some kind of neoprene based wipe that works well even at 50 bucks a roll.:biglaugh:

Rob-Whiz away! #2?? Find a comfortable lobsta pot! :rotf2:
Use this when you get home.
JackK 04-01-2010, 08:07 AM What's the saying about divers? There are two kinds... Those who pee in their wetsuit, and those who lie about it...
Take a leak before you get in it for sure... If it hits you later in the night then either keep yourself warm or take a quick break!
You better have a specially marked tub for your soiled wetsuits this season!!! :biglaugh:
FishnGrega 04-01-2010, 08:12 AM you ain't cool unless you pee your pants! Billy Madison

Who said anything about hoppping in the water. Just let it go man.
redlite 04-01-2010, 08:43 AM Talented men alternate which leg it goes down. Keep both warm.........
You definately wanna rinse it off with at least some fresh pressurized water at least once a week. Once the salt water evaporates, the pee and saltwater leave crystals behind that will make your wetsuit stiff and rub your grundle raw.......
BigFish 04-01-2010, 09:54 AM My neighbor (Hooligans) is a scuba diver and I asked him specifically about this when I was thinking of buying a wetsuit as to what divers do when they are down below and they have to pee???? His answer was they pee of course if they have to....its not like they are going to surface, take all their gear off, whizz and then get their gear back on and dive again???? Pee people....peeeeee!!!:uhuh:
Clogston29 04-01-2010, 10:31 AM i try to avoid it but will if i have too. i always flush the suit out a few times after (pull out the neck and dip) and rinse it well when i get home.
if you wading, you can go with backbeach's approach of making sure you go first and then not drinking anything. if you'll be doing any real swimming, you'll want to stay well hydrated to avoid cramping, which makes having to pee inevitable.
Back Beach 04-01-2010, 10:46 AM Pee people....peeeeee!!!:uhuh:
Shame on you...wetsuit fishing isn't the same as scuba diving...hold it or go before you put the suit on :laugha:
eastendlu 04-01-2010, 10:54 AM Shame on you...wetsuit fishing isn't the same as scuba diving...hold it or go before you put the suit on :laugha:
When your 200 yards out on a rock for a few hours and have to go its tough trying to pull down your wetsuit to sling an eel.:uhuh:
chefchris401 04-01-2010, 10:55 AM I have two different wetsuits that I use depending on the water temp.
My 3mm is NRS grizzly suit, best part it has a "relief zipper" on the bottom. So you can zip the bottom zipper up and it opens the access area, which allows you to go without peeing in the suit.
My 7mm is Bare, its a farmer john style but doesnt have the relief zipper, if the waters cold enough for the suit the pee actually helps keep you warm. Kind of weird the first few times, but you get used to it and it does help to warm the suit.
I use a good shampoo that i got from a dive shop, was $7 or 8 for the bottle and you only use a cap full. I rinse down the suit everytime, and once a week, give it a good soak in the soap and warm water, never had a smell isuues.
This is more embrassing than your pee question. The issue is "chub rub"
The other thing you might experience is "chub rub". If your a bigger guy and walk any distance in the suit you might get some chafing around your groin, private and leg area, tends to happen in warmer weather. They sell special lotions and stuff, but its just a non scented deodrant stick, I use degree or speed stick, a little rub on the thighs and legs and your good to go. Will make those long walks more enjoyable, especially if you fish daily.
Hope that helps.

If I had to swim 200 yards out to a rock, I'd likely %$%$%$%$ myself long before I got to it.

Isn't that what they call dirty dancing on The Biggest Loser...:hee:
Got a feeling I'm gonna end up apologizing for that one
Rockport24 04-01-2010, 12:42 PM :rotflmao: this thread could go down as the funniest ever!!!! :rotf2:
serioulsy though, I once heard a story (Maybe it was from Bear Grylls?) who said that in waters infested with parasites, you do not under any circumstances want to pee under water because they could swim up your junk and infect your bladder!! :yak5::bc:
not sayin our waters are like that, but just sayin' something to think about!

think I seen something like that on river monsters. it was a worm which is even crazier.
with that said I just go. hard to remember to not 'just go' when I decide to wear my waders though.
bassballer 04-01-2010, 01:06 PM I go in my waders
JackK 04-01-2010, 01:14 PM even better... it's a catfish... the candiru...
http://cienmentiras.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/candiru.jpg
chefchris401 04-01-2010, 01:23 PM Yeah the fish in the urethra thing was on river monsters, was down right distrubing.
some local guy pees in the water and this 4" long fish/worm thing swims inside his urethra and gets stuck and dies and starts decomposing, starts to stink, etc.
goes to the doctor and gets it PULLED out with tiny instruments and they save it in a jar. they had the actually footage of it! :err:
they showed the damage these fish can do to human body carcass, was distrubing, amazing and unsettling all at the same time. People get dumped in this river when they want to dispose of a body.
really made me think twice about peeing in the water. F THAT! :scream2:
Get yourself the "stadium pal" all the montauk skishers use it.. just strap the bag to your leg... :uhuh:
chefchris401 04-01-2010, 01:26 PM Here is what urban dictionary has a def.
1. chub-rub
what fat girls experience when their inner-upper thighs rub together so much they get chaffed and rashes break out. It usually is accompanied by sweat and foul odors.
Used in a sentence:
That chick has such bad chub-rub that I can see blood marks on her pants between her thighs.:rotflmao:

wow you guys are good, talk about disturbing!! :scream2:
ivanputski 04-01-2010, 02:47 PM I thought being able to pee without stripping down was the reason for using a suit!
Pete F. 04-01-2010, 03:47 PM I just want a zipper to put in mine, anyone know where I can get one?
gf2020 04-01-2010, 05:00 PM When I got my SCUBA certification 20 years ago, I was told there are 2 kinds of people who pee in their wet suits: those who do and liars.
MAKAI 04-01-2010, 09:35 PM Urine is sterile so pee away.
I have a smile on my face when standing in 4 feet of water a far from shallow water telling my pals I'm peeing again. They in their cold tall orvis waders, with tears in their eyes, biting their lower lip off
rizzo 04-02-2010, 06:11 AM Front, back, both? Do they have male and female versions?
only one version, just a straight up pant that tucks into the top shirt piece. sporasub, mares, picasso, omer all make this style.
likwid 04-02-2010, 11:14 AM When I got my SCUBA certification 20 years ago, I was told there are 2 kinds of people who pee in their wet suits: those who do and liars.
I know a surfer who left a floater at Ruggles.
Ya gotta go ya gotta go. :rotf2:
The Dad Fisherman 04-02-2010, 12:07 PM You know...there are Fetish Clubs in New York City where people pay top dollar to wear Rubber Suits and wet themselves.....You guys are spoiled :hihi:

oh you mean the clubs that the GOP hangs out at? :rotf2:
sorry to bring in politics, but I just couldn't resist that one
PaulS 04-02-2010, 12:50 PM I think tiger was asking about golden showers.
wader-dad 04-02-2010, 01:07 PM I pee out of the pee zipper on my Kokatat Drysuit.
StriperZ 04-02-2010, 06:20 PM Don't pee in the suit. The acid in the pee breaks down the glue at the seams, as that is the weakest part. USCG dive training suggests not doing so, although it is not unheard of after long hours in the suit.
piemma 04-03-2010, 05:07 AM I go in my waders
I use to fish with a guy that peed in his waders all the time. Claimed it kept him warm!
sokinwet 04-03-2010, 06:42 AM I used to surf winters when I was young...1st thing you do when you go in...brings that water in the suit up to body temp right quick. That's the reason we all drank so many beers all the time.....ya that's the reason....I wouldn't lie.
tynan19 04-03-2010, 07:17 PM ChubRub. Where a pair of very thin polyester pants under the suit or shorts. Will prevent the rub.

You should be embarressed !
You know! if not take up golfing
Surfpirate 04-04-2010, 09:58 AM there was an interesting study, I will try to find it, that said sharks were attracted to urine....

chefchris401 04-05-2010, 09:21 AM YouTube - Best performance - Ted Levine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQb2m6VJ-eo)
I never had done it prior to a Cuttyhunk trip last year. Tynan19 built it up like it was the best thing that could ever happen to me so I tried it while I was out there. It was fantastic! Since then I've started washing my suit every trip though! I just soak it in dishwashing soap and water. Works great. I have two suits so I always have one that's dry.
tynan19 04-05-2010, 03:58 PM Yeah couldn't imagine having to swim back to shore to take a leak it was bad enough in waders getting your belt off and then the top. Mike, glad you changed your mind.
MAKAI 04-05-2010, 06:40 PM The other part thats a pain in the ass is when you're into fish and your wader buddies have to pee and you get stuck being the coat rack as they climb to the highest part of the rock and hand you all their gear just to pee, Wear depends and let me fish !
Pete F. 05-24-2010, 08:46 AM I put a zipper in my wetsuit.
Horiziontal under my belt.
Works perfect, don't have to take anything off.
I don't know about you but peeing in my suit bothered me.
back in 1990 I lived in Florida and did some marine construction. We worked doing seawall repairs on the intercoastal. During the months of Jan and Feb we wore wetsuits.
When nature called (#1) we just peed in the wetsuit. It does warm you up but takes getting used to; letting the flow start.
Cleaning the wetsuit is essential. Urine leaves the body almost sterile but will leave a rash.
#2 is totally out of the question.:yak5:
Frankiesurf 05-24-2010, 05:03 PM Luds, dishwashing soap is to aggressive for neoprene and will break it down in time. A freshwater rinse or soak is fine after each use or two but to wash it use either wetsuit wash or baby shampoo.
If you are gonna pee in it, which I do, don't do it when you are still dry and not when you get on your front seat going to another spot. That is just weird.
