I'm starting to get a little tearout on my plug bodies that need extra sanding. Could my three month old vega midi duplicator bit be dulling already? Is is something else? I probably did about 100 or so bodies from various types of wood. Do you sharpen these things or just replace them?

Gotta be the HSS as it just looks like a sharpened steel cutting point. Do you send them to a special place or do them yourself?

sharpen it yourself

Yea usually the hss only last 5 lures and its dull. I would get in touch with the Professor and get the carbide tool.

the HSS one they give is basically just to give something.

P's holder and inserts are great. If you switch remember to look at the height as the HSS one they give you is a hair higher if I remember correctly.

Might not be just the bit. With all the humidity in the air the wood sucks it up like a sponge. More moisture content more and bigger tear-outs plus with some woods you'll get stringy-ness. Something I learned from my shop teacher back in high school a couple 2 or 3 yrs ago. LOL

and you thought you were going to make cost effective fishing lures.

Species of wood, red cedar for example, lends itself to tear out more than others too. Like stated you can resharpen, stone, them but they don't last long. Give it a shot and if and when you get aggravated and give up I have what you need.
