The guy I bought my tinny from cut the gunnel(lowered it),my new(old)40 hp is throwing water at me,I have since raised the transom 2 1/2 inches,so the cav plate is 1 1/2 inches below the hull.I haven't gottten to test it yet.Any thoughts?

What weight/HP was the tinny originally rated for? I ask because when I think of a tinny, it wouldn't be with a 40HP.....

The boat is a 1971,and no longer has the rating plate. She sits nice in the water with the 40,it's a 16 ft Starcraft, with about 6 feet of beam.
Just wondering if anyone has had experience with short/long shaft issues,or a cav plate being too low.I'm hoping the two inches I added, solve the "plumbing":)issues.

cav plate should be even with bottom of hull. it's too low if it is throwing water at you. you're on the right track but might need to come up a little more. within 1" should be ok but any more will usually cause problems. also be careful not to go too high or it will break loose in hard corners.
