View Full Version : Started looking for small tin boat
ThrowingTimber 04-08-2010, 05:38 AM Ended up with a 20 foot Romarine Center Console with a 90 hp Mercury outboard.
Its an unfinished project boat. Stringers, transon and deck were re-done a few years ago. Boat then sat for lack of time/funds/effort. Buddy works over at jamestown distributors as a boat builder he scoped it out for me everything checked out solid.
To do list -
Electrical - essential:
Run new electrical
bow-stern lights
install new bilge
Mechanical-essential:
replace trim motor & trim fluid
New fuel filters
Lower Unit Oil
rebuild carbs
Water pump
general tune up
Cosmetic:
awl grip
Theres a few little things to do and Im sure they'll add up.
piemma 04-08-2010, 06:18 AM Good luck and welcome over to "THE DARK SIDE":buds::jump1:

ProfessorM 04-08-2010, 09:20 AM excellent Vic. Good luck and have fun doing it. Working on a boat goes hand and hand with owning it, unless you are rich.

ThrowingTimber 04-08-2010, 12:28 PM thanks guys. I think for the initial investment and starting with a sound hull it will be a good learning experience.

RIROCKHOUND 04-08-2010, 05:05 PM get a pad to stand on if beating into a chop. Ro's like to bang, but they are very seaworthy. I've done things in a 24 we probably shouldn't do!
Clammer 04-08-2010, 06:53 PM Oak ;
I filled Vic in before hand on it being a wet /banging hull ;;
But the price was right ;
Now Vic , when ya get to the smash into rocks or bridges level >>>>>>>>>>>>>> LMK :buds:

Raven 04-09-2010, 01:35 AM Be prepared...because weather can get nasty unexpectantly.
Go overboard (excuse the pun) with your safety gear and hope you don't need it
and smile if and when you do.

the 2nd best day in a boat owners life
ThrowingTimber 04-12-2010, 09:42 AM paul k. Yup compass is a must. Ff'gps chartplotter is sitting on a closet shelf screaming put me in coach!
Paul I. Thanks for the offer of assistance I may just take you up on it.
I can see how one can get carried away with these things! Just looking for a sound vessel. Nothing fancy. If I wanted new I could have but for an occasional use Fv. I couldn't justify it. basically I'm treating the project as of it were a tin boat. Just going for sound motor and electrical. Hull is already been done. Awl grip and all that is a nice to have and not essential to me, I'm aware however that it helps the boats performance but for occasional use I think it will be negligible.

ThrowingTimber 04-12-2010, 09:51 AM Don I'm thinking "access denied" or denied access. It plays into the notes that are left on my truck after a session in the surf annd also what I do for work. Nothing "lofty" to qoute kevin kiss. That's best left for sailboats.
