View Full Version : Song of the week
Back Beach 12-06-2013, 05:50 PM This show is regarded as one of the best ever by many dead fans. Most times I pass on the popular opinion shows, but this one deserves the hype. Another one worthy of adding to the rotation. Pure magic:

ProfessorM 01-03-2014, 05:17 PM I liked that...very Steely Dan-ish.
He has done some work for them on occasion and worked with Pink Floyd on The Wall album. There isn't many he hasn't played with being a studio player for 40 years. His solo stuff is fantastic usually with the hiring of the best studio guys he has played with. No slouches for him.

ProfessorM 01-11-2014, 05:29 PM Some Dan. Great talk box solo by Dean Parks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWYchJI0Cv8
ProfessorM 01-11-2014, 05:51 PM If you find Dean Parks interesting here is a band, Koinonia, early 80 he had a big part of. Some real good session players, which Dean was and Steely Dan used on all their albums, came out of this band. He left early in the bands history so it is hard to find a lot he did with them. He is still a sought after sessions player in LA according to his site.
Check out this guys resume, unbelievable

ProfessorM 03-04-2015, 08:40 PM I just noticed you put up Mocha by Scott Henderson. That tune is great and the solo is so friggin good. I have had it on my I pod for a few years. The guy is really sick.
rphud 03-05-2015, 08:37 AM It's on one of the CDs you burned for me. Took me forever to track him down. ProfessorM 03-07-2015, 06:24 PM Hey Bob Pat just blows me away every time I listen no matter what style he is killing and the fact he chooses and surrounds himself with such fantastic musicians is further evidence that he has no equal in my book.
rphud 03-08-2015, 11:48 AM Funny, I was thinking of the interview Pat did where he says there is only one Jaco and nobody can do Jaco and it came to mind that the same is true for Pat. I think my head would explode if Pat toured with Redman and Christian McBride in this neck of the woods.

ProfessorM 03-09-2015, 11:15 AM I was in early with this kid and touted his skills several years ago but I have kind of tired of his sound in the past year or so but that is probably just me. None the less he is talented.

ProfessorM 03-09-2015, 01:38 PM The previous opinion was not meant to diminish the guy you like just curious if anyone else feels that way or I am off kilter with my remark. I don't usually put down artists as everyone likes what they like. I got a 14 year daughter who is an aspiring musician and I cringe at what she considers music. I try not to comment but sometimes I just can't help myself.

ProfessorM 11-21-2015, 09:12 PM Some Frank tonight. Occam's Razor
This is an example of Zappa's Xenochrony technique. If you are unfamiliar with this term here is an explanation
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xenochrony
Either way it is a killer solo and actually from a live version of Inca Roads.

Now don't forget the guns you know exactly what I mean
Bring the pistols, bring the Uzi and the old AR-15

It's nice to know we're free to blow nine hundred rounds a minute
