John sorry for posting here but this area gets lot more visibility.

Alert * * Massachusetts Sportsmen’s Council * * Alert

The Governor, in his FY04 Budget (House 1) is proposing to eliminate the dedicated Inland Fisheries and Game Fund and transfer the balance ($6 million+) to the Stabilization Fund. This is using monies voluntarily paid by sportsmen for sportsman related programs and land acquisition, not tax revenues, to subsidize other public uses. It is another TAX ONLY ON SPORTSMEN AND WOMEN if he is successful. In addition to the $6+ million in the account, we will also lose over $4.6 million in federal reimbursements. These losses will devastate the operation of the division.

In outside sections he is also increasing, to $75.00, the fees for licenses and permits relating to firearms:

Section 161 - License to sell ammunition

Section 162 - Firearms Identification Card Fees

Section 163 - License to Carry Firearms

Section 164 - Permits to Purchase Firearms

Section 165 - Non-Residents & Non-Resident Aliens Firearms Fees

Section 166 - Resident Aliens Firearms Fees

We successfully stopped the transfer for FY03, now it is more imperative that we stop the elimination of OUR dedicated fund and the miss-appropriation of monies in it.

The Massachusetts Sportsmen’s Council asks every sportsman and as many others as possible to call their Representative and Senator and urge him/her to oppose this latest attack on sportsmen and gun owners. Tell them not to allow this raid on non-tax revenue, to protect our dedicated fund and to vote to reject the firearm fees increase.

Please forward to sportsmen and others!

What do you guys expect? Did anyone actually look into Mitt's background prior to electing him? Man is from the mid-West, republican, Mormon, and made a fortune as a venture capitalist (Bain & Co). His dad was a Congressman. Silver spoon in his mouth from Day 1. I don't know about you guys, but I have done a fair deal of business with venture capitalists over the years, and I must tell you -- none of the one's I worked with cared much for anyone or anything other then making money for themselves. Period.

Mitt is not in this for us, he is in this to try to leverage it into something bigger......mark my words, he'll run for Congress (Senate side, I'd assume) as soon as the opening appears.

His campaign will be, "See, I balanced the budget and brought the State back into financial stability -- without raising any taxes". But what they'll never tell you is they cut so much in services that you get nothing in MA for your tax dollar. If you live in MA pray that your house never catches on fire, or that you need a policeman quickly, or that you have kids that need to be educated......becuase there will be no funds available for any of this stuff. But what does Mitt care, by that time he'll be out of here.....

Really folks, we are just getting what we deserve by electing a self-centered, egotistical, businessman into the corner office......and I tend to think like a republican!!

This is not directed to anyone

Let's keep it on the Subject....It is wrong to take the license monies from the MA Wildlife Budget. That is what we must fight to stop.

I like Mitt in General and I am absolutely Ok with a bunch of his moves so far. However this is off the Wall.

My point is if you keep adding other things to the point you start to make, you lose that point in all the bs and end up forgetting what you were upset about to begin with.

Lets all pick up the phone and make calls...Gov's Office, your individual State Rep and Your Individual State Senator. If you are not willing to make 3 calls to information and 3 calls to voice your opinion then you are working for those you are mad at.

That stinks for us non-resident-license-to carry holders.

Remember - we have to renew EVERY YEAR - not every four years like residents do.

The application fee is already ridiculous ($50) when you consider the legwork we have to do - passport photos ($10), state background check ($25 where I live) and then don't forget the $1.00 you have to shell out for the postal money order fee since DPS doesn't take personal checks...and THEN the postage. Unbelievable. :af:
