View Full Version : Celts
Advance after last nights win.
If (when) they face the Cavs, I'm not too confident they will make it past them.
At least there is more home team B-ball to watch.
spinncognito 04-29-2010, 06:01 AM Cavs are beatable if LJ is truly hurting. :uhuh:
EarnedStripes44 04-29-2010, 11:05 AM Its a tough road ahead. Cavs are going to create some tough front court issues. They have three 7-footers. As to the backcourt, A lot is riding on Ray Allen. If he shows up, we will win. He is a little bigger than their starting 2-guard West who is far from as fast or the defensive player that Dwayne Wade is. I don't know who is going to guard L. James; we would need a Ron Artest or a Tayshaun Prince. We don't have anyone strong or fast enough for the job. Even if they beat the Cav's they still have to plow through Orlando. If we beat those two teams, we will win the Chip. But a lot has to go right, and we have to win at home, and on the road. I hesitate to say this is a challenge that can't be overcome, but I'm being realistic. On the bright side, we are a much better coached team. But we will have to grab boards and move the ball. I'd much rather see us play Atlanta but we squandered that opportunity on those blown games at the season's end.
WTF was that last night?
Looked like the Celts layed down in the fourth.
GEEZZZ, crappy passes, crappy shots.
Not even an attempt to take a quick shot with 1 minute left.
The Cavs are definatley beatable, but I dont understand what that was.
ProfessorM 05-02-2010, 11:15 AM had them right where they wanted and fell apart. Rondo is playing himself into the best guards around. Luv watching him play. Pierce couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. he score we win IMO. Every one needs to be at the top to beat this team. Let one get away.
MarshCappa 05-03-2010, 09:19 PM Unless they totally fall apart this series is tied up now. The Kings elbow looks like it is a problem. Hmmmmmm, new series!
104-86
Ahhh that feels better.:uhuh::uhuh:
Lots better...:jump1:
Yea he looked like he was hurting.
And if that's the cavs without LJ, they may not make it
past the celts .:bc::bc:
Dad 818 05-04-2010, 09:58 AM Should be up 2-0. :smash: :fury:
Funny, LBJ's elbow seemed fine lifting up his MVP trophy.
Clogston pointed out the other night how rediculous Pierce has been with the drawing contact. I hadn't picked up on it but I he embarrassed himself last night with that move. It was hard to watch. Have to agree with Prof M. If Pierce can score the C's should do well. We 100% miss Garnett's dominance but he is a hell of a role player and big baby.....sorry glen seems to step up at times which has filled some of the void. I got pissed last night when TNT didn't have Rondo as one of the top 3 guards in the game but I guess they're right. If he can develop a mid to long range jump shot he moves right up there IMO.
Toggling back between the B's and C's last night was enjoyable. Wish I had some frosties.
ProfessorM 05-04-2010, 03:35 PM sweet. RONDO for president
JamesJet 05-04-2010, 08:51 PM Totally think the Cavs can be beat, but after watching this team all season for some reason they don't play as well at home and really don't play well in day games. I don't know their daytime record but I assure you its not good. Those are two factors that dont bode well for this weekend.
Additionally I am sick of hearing about LeBron's elbow. If it was really that bad he would not be slamming the backboard to block shots or any other power moves. He did drop in his first dunk the other night but seemed to do better later. He seemed to shoot fine, drive fine, and even had a few shots with contact.
I will be at both games so if anyone is going shoot me a PM, I am usually at Halftime pizza / Sully's before the game.
ProfessorM 05-07-2010, 07:10 PM Ah Celts in case you didn't know you got a friggin game tonite:wall: WTF is this I am watching. Going to the B's now.
Dad 818 05-07-2010, 07:52 PM Whatever momentum that was gained in the Game 2 win, was lost with the 4 DAY layoff.
NBA Playoff Schedule is a joke. Playoffs started in April and won't end until June.
The Dad Fisherman 05-07-2010, 09:40 PM A Big OH'fer for the Boston Teams tonight...:wall:
JohnR 05-07-2010, 09:58 PM Ouch...
afterhours 05-08-2010, 07:00 AM i had a bad feeling going into last night about the trifecta...:smash:
Strange series so far. Two blowouts, each at home...??:huh:
I'm not a hockey fan, but I switched to watching the screen with the Bs. Me and my buds were at a sports bar and MAN was
that place hopping :bounce::bounce::bounce:!!:cheers2:
until the OT....:smash::smash:
As for the celts, I am skeptical about todays game..
ProfessorM 05-09-2010, 08:34 PM Rondo takes control again. Back to being a series again. Please Paul please show us some offense, we need you.
Slipknot 05-09-2010, 08:40 PM You said it Paul, we need Paul to step it up on offense, and i bet he will
I said 2 years ago Rondo will be a star and he IS
good for him:uhuh:
glad to see them win
James does well the Cavs win....James does poorly the Cavs lose.
Rondo was fun to watch. Imagine if he had a killer jump shot.
Good game
Dad 818 05-11-2010, 10:03 PM Damn this team is tough to figure out!
Great team win. As Garnett said after the game "We cannot come back to Cleveland for a Game 7"
JohnR 05-12-2010, 06:50 AM Good, solid, game last night. This is there chance to beat the Cavs and move on. grab it.
Damn this team is tough to figure out!
Great team win. As Garnett said after the game "We cannot come back to Cleveland for a Game 7"
Got that right.
But again,, James does poorly, they lose... period!
They isolated him very well last night.
Keeping the ball out of his hands, he stasy cold.
Talk is he won't stay with Cavs next year.
Maybe a green jersey is in his future..:confused: NAH !!
Will be a sweet win in the Garden......HOPEFULLY......
Saltheart 05-13-2010, 02:08 PM Big game tonight! Rondo is an exciting player to watch. Pierce had just 1 good game and when he did , the Celtics slaughtered Cleveland.
I honestly think its all determined by how the Celtics play. Whether James plays well or not , the Celtics can beat them if they play well. Another good game by Pierce and thats it.
FishermanTim 05-13-2010, 03:22 PM If the Celts can keep Lebron from "getting" into his groove, they can win the game. If they start "falling back on their heels" as they say in football, the Cavs will run right over them.
MarshCappa 05-13-2010, 04:37 PM Good, solid, game last night. This is there chance to beat the Cavs and move on. grab it.

JohnR 05-13-2010, 09:59 PM Damn!
Dad 818 05-14-2010, 07:37 AM Who the hell was that and what did he do with Rasheed Wallace?
Now onto the team that beat us last year.
Who the hell was that and what did he do with Rasheed Wallace?
Yea no kidding..that was awwwwsome.
And seeing KG get hot and hitting shots was doubly awwwsome.
Rondo is not from this planet.........
Whats up with Pierce though, didn't do squat until late in the game?
ProfessorM 05-14-2010, 09:15 AM Can we please get a little props for the defense. The defense was a major reason Lebron and the Cavs had such a tough go of it. I am sick of hearing about he had a bad series and they, Cavs, didn't play up to their potential . Lebron this and Lebron that. The D had a lot to do with it.
Looking forward to the next round. Going to be a tough series but I wouldn't put it past them to win.
Saltheart 05-14-2010, 09:53 AM I thought Lebron played well. almost 30 points and 20 rebounds , 10 assists. Can't expect more than that from a guy. The Celtics are just a better team. Pierce was in foul trouble from the get go on cheap calls I thought. His fourth foul was invisible! He played good for the time he had but I think he maybe got 10 minutes?
KG played really well on both ends. Orlando may be the team that beat them last year but last year they didn't have KG. I think it changes everything. Should be a good series .

Turnovers are killer in the playoffs and Lebron had like 10 or something like that. That almost negates hi scoring. Pierce is going to have to to show up at some point if they're going to have a shot agains the Magic.
FishermanTim 05-14-2010, 10:53 AM One real positive is the skill and intensity level that Perkins, Davis and Tony Allen have risen to in this series. Even with Pierce having an off night the offense stepped up and the defense had Lebron's number for most of the night.
Bring on Orlando!
Dad 818 05-14-2010, 11:06 AM Perk plays Howard very well (if they allow him to play). Tony Allen's energy was huge against the Cavs.
I don't see a huge series for Pierce. Matt Barnes plays him very tough, almost as well as Artest does and we know how that is. Artest is in his head ever since he pulled his shorts down.
That said, this is a series the Celts can win.
We beat "D-Wade" and "The King/Chosen One/MVP/blah blah blah".
Now it's time to kill "Superman"
ProfessorM 05-14-2010, 04:12 PM Nelson will play a major role too and they didn't have a healthy him last year. It will be close.

Totally agree.
And I forgot the KUDOS to T.A.. Man hes got energy and brings it to the unit on the court.
I noticed that the "talking heads" could not stop talking about Lebron the WHOLE FREAKIN GAME........ Geeeeezzzzz.
Slipknot 05-15-2010, 05:13 PM glad to see the Celts win
ya all the slobbering and lovefest over Labron reminds me too mush of all the Brett Favre buttkissing attention whoring:smash:
I agree Paul
Props to D
big difference this years playoffs with a healthy KG
and Rondo a year more experience
ProfessorM 05-16-2010, 07:40 PM nice. seat squirmier at end but i'll take it. Their defense is relentless although I think they were getting tired at the end, they ain't sprig chickens anymore.

Totally agree....Orlando is a pretty young team.
How old is D Howard? Like 25 or so??
The edge of my seat is worn from the last series..have to get a new one.:rotf2:
slow eddie 05-17-2010, 11:30 AM a win is a win. especially when it neutralises a home court advantage.
c's in 6. beat l.a.
Saltheart 05-18-2010, 12:06 PM Should be interesting tonight. The last game I think the Celtics caught them flat footed. The Celts come off a very intense level of play with Cleveland while Orlando had an easy series. I think the Celts were way jacked up in the level playoff level of play while Orlando was just playing normal. I think tonight Orlando will be jacked up too and it should be a good game.
To me Howard needs different coaching or to play with and be mentored by some older centers. He's physically talented but he just doesn'y know how to use his size and strength well.
I agree the Celtics bench is huge. They allow KG to rest often and yet not fall too far behind in the scoring. Then he comes out fresh and drives in the coffin nails.
Rondo is still the wildcard. He's capable of ripping the game wide open if he plays smart. This should be a great game to watch tonight!

How is Rondo a wild card? He's the most consistent player on the team? I think you're stuck in 2008.
Orlando needs to get rid of those noisemakers. I'd be so embarressed by that if I lived in Orlando. At least they're not quite as obnoxious as a thunderstick.
I stand corrected. Plenty of thundersticks in the crowd. :smash:
Dad 818 05-18-2010, 10:49 PM Couldn't have scripted this any better.
SHWEEEEEEEETTTTTT....
A veteren team makes those free throws (Pierce).
Vince Carter must still be crying.
Good game all around though ;lets see if they can punish them at home.
:drool::drool:
ProfessorM 05-19-2010, 08:14 AM Fell asleep before the end:smash:, was happy when I woke this morning. Just watched the highlights. Awesome effort. Rondo, the new Jr. Dr. J., Julius Errrrrrrrrrrrrving. Sorry for the Spectrum's D. Zinkoff quote, I am sure you fellow old people will remember. :) As far as sweep I'm not going there but sure beats being down 2 games.
MarshCappa 05-19-2010, 09:01 AM Something about this team seems special again. How about this little tidbit.....This is the first time in the history of the franchise that they have gone on the road and won the first two games in the playoffs!
FishermanTim 05-19-2010, 10:19 AM ...Orlando needs to get rid of those noisemakers. I'd be so embarressed by that if I lived in Orlando. At least they're not quite as obnoxious as a thunderstick.
If the league is going to go all "panty-waist" on Ainge for tossing a towel in the air, maybe they an grow a pair and address the noisemakers as well.
Let the damm guys play. If you can't take the pressure of the NBA, stick to the streetball or gym games and leave the pros to the PROS!
Remember the twit years back seated behind home plate at the games that would twirl her arms when the pitcher threw the ball?
Let them play the game.
Saltheart 05-20-2010, 03:40 PM I still think Rondo is a wild card. One night 30 , the next 17 , he plays great then all of a sudden he does something really stupid. He's way better than he was in 2008 of course but i think he will get even better in the next wto years and more predictable as far as game to game performances.
I think Davis and Perkins are doing a great job. so are Tony Allen and Wallace. The good bench allows the big stars to sit for a while and to go in and out as fouls start adding up. this ensures they will be on the floor for the last 3 to 5 minutes when anything can happen.
Overall , I think the Celtics just own the magic and hope they sweep in 4 and get some rest before LA.

I agree that his scoring is a bit of a wild card but they don't count on that. He gives a solid performance seemingly every night. The great ones contribute in anyway their teams them to. To me Rondo is already does that.
slow eddie 05-21-2010, 03:17 PM rondo just plain scares them with his speed. a one man fast break. he appears to totally in charge on the floor. directing traffic, etc.
same as the clevland series. they have the best player, boston has the next 4.

I really think he is there now. His stupid plays are pretty rare now and his spectacular plays are becoming the norm. I really can't find much to complain about with his performance nowadays. They nor any of the teams they have faced so far have no answer for him.:uhuh:
Saltheart 05-22-2010, 11:45 AM By wildcard I'm not saying Bad vs good. I'm saying good vs Spectacular. When he's Spectacular , nobody will beat the Celtics. When he's good , we need someone else to have a big night like one of the big 3.
So anyway , we all agree Rondo is really good. I'm just saying I see him becoming a superstar in a couple of years.

WTF..........HE'S ALWAYS SPECTACULAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL. Not sure why I'm so commited to defending Rondo. I agree that he will need to be special if they are to top the Lakers. I don't think they need him so much against orlando. The bigs and Pierce are owning them so far.
WOW......
What did Pierce say??
ANYONE GOT A BROOM ?
It's really good when a team gets better as the advance through the playoffs. Watch out LA
Saltheart 05-23-2010, 12:48 PM What slaughter last night! I'm glad they won but I want to see a game , not a slaughter. Plan the whole day to be able to watch them at night and then you end up channel surfaing the 4 th quarter while the scubs run out the minutes with a 30 point lead.
I hope they sweep and have some time to rest before LA. We got some oldies on our team and the rest really helps them.
ProfessorM 05-23-2010, 01:40 PM Allowed me to fall asleep early so I could get up at 4 today. friggin clinic out there last several games. This team's defense is making them look silly. Please don't let your foot off pedal.
I think Rondo was kidnapped, he sure was not at the game last night.
Hope he's alright, I heard some talk about an injury.
I have plans Wednesday night, I'll probably miss the game.:fury::fury:
They all looked tired by the end of the game and the OT.
JohnR 05-25-2010, 07:13 AM Missed opportunity at the end of regulation.
Rondo had two fouls early, Orlando showed up ready to play.

I think they ran outta gas...
Rondo had 9 points for the night !!!!!:wall:
Saltheart 05-25-2010, 10:30 AM Good game to watch. I thought we were going to take it at the end but Re#^&#^&#^&#^& killed us. The OT was really bad. Pierce looked like he was going to fall down.
Overall I thought Pierce and Davis played great. Pierce's success was obvious but I thought davis playedreally good D and got some tough rebounds when needed.Rondo and Garnet were no shows. Any help from them at all along with Pierces great game and we would have won.
I think Howard was mauling everyone. The refs will see that when they review the game and I wouldn't be surprised if he were in foul trouble early next game.
I think Wed is the end of the road for Orlando. I think we saw their best possible game last night and they still only got a tie in regulation.
Slipknot 05-25-2010, 12:18 PM I did not have a good feeling about the whole game but thought they had a chance atleast. Pierce had a good game but was a ballhog in the end. Ray Allen should have been giving the ball a lot more near the end. When are the rest of the team going to realize just how well conditioned Ray is compared to Paul?:smash: Pierce was out of gas.
Garrnet did well 5 for 5 to start the game then disappeared .\
Davis did good
Rondo tried to do too much, maybe he is hurt or atleast tweaked a bit.
Orlando definately came prepared to play.
I hope Boston is ready for Wed. night, they need to close this out.
I loved game 3 even though it was a clinic out there. That got the Magic's attention I guess.
Slipknot 05-26-2010, 09:21 PM The Celtics and Perkins got HOSED!:wall::smash::smash:

Damn right that better get rescinded! Gotta to say though that after watching Perk's career in Boston his bitching gets old. I appreciate the enthusiasm but he goes nuts over just about every other foul that is called on him.
In his defense, the officiating was pretty lop-sided. DWhite is not being called for all the dirty play and that pissing off the big guys.
I am still looking for the kidnapper of RONDO....WTF???
ProfessorM 05-27-2010, 07:43 AM don't know about you guys but I am really nervous now. The momentum has really shifted and i don't feel good about winning the next game. Like a different team right now. Got to keep them under 95 points or forgetaboutit. Glad I didn't watch it last nite, work. Did see the high, low lites and I agree that tech was bad and I hope baby is back from queer street cause he we need him. time to strap them on guys.

In all fairness, the Celtics were pretty much roughing up Orlando the 1st couple of games of the series, with out any whistles.....the refs are letting them play, I have no problem with that..... Like the professor said....strap on a pair and give it right back to them

Pretty much sick of Howard's repeated "inadvertent" elbows, or follows through to the floor. I pray to God that the C's get a big, early lead and then hammer the piss out of Howard.
And they did let them play the first couple games, but there were no elbows connecting to any Magic domes. About time to go eye for an eye. Knock down Nelson on a drive. Smack Carter around. "Inadvertently" elbow Howard in the head. Talk about Barnes mother. :fury: (Betcha he would snap!) :biglaugh:

Too many elbows in conjunction with faux innocent looks. That arm grapple slamming Pierce to the floor was one of way too many.

Exactly....grow a set and give it right back to them.....If they are gonna let it go then go for it......but don't stand around w/ a pouty look on your face looking for a whistle all the time
FishermanTim 05-27-2010, 10:40 AM I second that!
Don't wait for the officials to win the game for you, get out and PLAY!
Of course, a well placed knee to knee collision with Howard could just be an "accident". :rollem::rolleyes::huh::angel::rotflmao:
MarshCappa 05-27-2010, 11:01 AM I'm not too worried right now. If you told me we'd be up 3-2 at this point prior to the series I would be psyched. I think we will win Friday. Blow out.

I still feel the C's win Friday as well. But a lot of expectations will go out the window if Perk is suspended for 7 playoff techs, 'Sheed's back doesn't clear up and BBD is still in La-La land. Heard he also had teeth knocked out.

Saltheart 05-27-2010, 11:24 PM Howard is getting away with murder. The arms always grabbing , the hands raking people faces , the elbows always swinging. Its dirty play and only one way to stop it if the refs won't. They call it a "hatchet man". Send in the big red head from the bench and tell him his job is to simply nail Howard. BY the third time , the refs smarten up and start calling fouls on Howard or he leaves the game with a broken nose.
Bill laimbeer was a classic case. he got out of control so the next game when he went up for a ball , Robert Parish squared off , planted his feet and simply punched him right in the face . 1 personal foul and one technical on Parish later, the refs put a stop to Laimbeers bull because they saw either they would stop it or someone was going to the hospital.
Howards crap is so obvious I don't see how anyone watching it objectively could say its other than dirty. I have a feeling the powers that be saw a 4 game slaughter and sweep by Boston which is not good for the TV revenue and told the refs to let Howard get physical. Fine, good old fashion Bball.........so send out the good old fashion "hatchet man"
ProfessorM 05-29-2010, 08:28 AM well done. I just hope we are healthy enough to give it a good shot. Nutin would be sweeter than to beat LA again in say 7 like in 69, although I don't need a 7 game coronary.

MarshCappa 05-29-2010, 08:36 AM Perfect video Paul! What a team! They looked good last night and I really like how this team " Get's it"! I feel like there is another banner in the making with this unit.:uhuh:
The Celts got the spirit and drive to take the whole thing.
If everyone stays healthy I think they can do it.

The classic matchup for the finals.
LA has a score to settle from 2 years ago.
Should be an interesting series.
More nights with no sleep though....:wall:
Saltheart 05-30-2010, 12:13 PM its going to be a great finals series. I'm glad LA is in the finals. I hate them but they are the team you want to beat to take the title. I think our team matches well to their type of play. Our D should be able to tone down the 3 point flurries and I thing Pierce will score more points than Koby. It boils down again to Rondo and garnet. Rondo needs to play the fast game with reckless abandon but not smash himself to pieces! :)
garnet is a mistery to me. I just don't know what's wrong with him but he needs to get into the game more.
The tape about Russel and the 69 celtics is great. I remeber when I was very young , watching the games with my father and sometimes his whole faimily. I was super impressed with Wilt but my father kept saying Russel was the best player in the game and maybe the best I will ever see. As I got into my mid teens I started to see what he meant. Now , after seeing Oscar and Elgin an Hondo and Dr J and Larry and Magic and Michael and Lebron , I still think Russel is the best I ever saw. Its simple , he played as good as he had to in order to beat whoever was on the floor that game. People say the modern players are better but you are only as good as the best guy you play against forces you to be. Russel elivated his game to beat one of the most amazing physical specimins in the history of the game , Wilt, and I have no doubt he would do the same against any more modern superstar.
For anyone who doesn't think Hondo should be mentioned as an altime great on my list above , I say the same think. he beat everyone they put in front of him and palyed whatever role the team needed at the time. If they needed points , he scored them , if they needed D he worked his butt off , if they needed ball movement and assists ,he passed the ball , rebounds , steals , you name it , he did whatever the team needed. Its too bad all the individual stats are what a guy is measured on today. Guys from the past would sacrifice their own stats because in those days , winning as a team was how they defined themselves. The role players on the team , who could play any role the team needed , could have run up any particular stat they wanted but instead they did what it took to win. I think this years team is like those old teams. There's no Larry Bird or Magic Johnson in the bunch who can pull a game out of their butt with miracles like those guys and they know it. They know the only way for them to be champs is to make the team better.
I lump the Celtics history as having 2 kinds of teams who were champs. The Russel and Bird teams had superstars gallore , the Cowens team and this years team do it with hard , hard work.
Obviously I'm fired up about the finals! I love watching the Celtics play LA!
