View Full Version : Friday Fishing?
Got Stripers 03-04-2003, 08:20 PM Jenn and I are looking at a potential Friday striper excursion to the Thames, 3 in the boat isn't a problem so I've got room for one more. Keep in mind that "legally" a freshwater CT license is required by law and 3 day tickets are available at the Fish Connection 1 exit down. Jenn, you let me know if you need to meet me there, but exit 79 stay left by the casino, at the end turn right and the Fish Connection is less than 1/2 mile up on the right. I think they hit you some $10-12 for a 3 day, I usually buy a $40 season out of state, but I'm a regular:).
If anyone else has the day off, or wants to call in sick, pm or email me and we can make arrangements. Keeping in mind I've still got to watch the weather and keep moving stuff off my own plate. But it's 90% good to go. I'm not calling John I know the answer, Clammers headed south, Schoolie used up his few get out of newborn free cards for a while, so who's got it bad?
gilligan 03-04-2003, 08:25 PM if only i????????????????
JohnR 03-04-2003, 08:37 PM I got it bad but I'm gonna have some this weekend anyway (fish) so I'll survive. For the rest of you - this is an educational experience - get yer butts out there!
It's worth it! Oh, and get the license too!
fishweewee 03-04-2003, 08:49 PM :wall: :crying:
mrmacey 03-05-2003, 04:41 AM but with wifes condition due date is 6 days away i cant be an hour away thanks for invite though for someone that has never done that type its fun!!
What time you goin' there Mr. Ledgerunner?...
MountainBreeze 03-05-2003, 01:07 PM Oh man... I would be willing to call out for a chance like this but...
1) I have no wet gear (except waders)
2) My new rod isn't done yet.
3) I am WAY too green at fishing
Can't wait to see some pics though!!! :)
Tight Lines,
Rob
JohnR 03-05-2003, 01:16 PM Rob - you would be in a boat. Bring a light rod.
STEVE IN MASS 03-05-2003, 01:29 PM Yer tempting me GS, your tempting me.......if your not full by tomorrow noon, let me know.....I may be game.......
Got Stripers 03-05-2003, 01:58 PM Ok Friday is not the day, weather looked like a washout for the weekend, but now Satruday looks to be just overcast and much milder. Jenn I sent you a pm, unless the weather changes again (remember it's new england), I'm now shooting for Saturday 8-8:30 at the ramp. I may go earlier to insure a parking spot, but can pop in at that time to pick you up.
Don you replyed first, so you have first dibs, then I'll take a 3rd in the order posting interest. Let me know if Saturday works. Jenn and any others for this or future trips, BY THE LETTER OF THE LAW, you need a CT freshwater fishing license. Although I've never even seen a game warden, I did hear they were down after the first of the year checking licences. My "official response" to any game warden will be; hey I'm licensed and everyone I take knows they need to be, but I don't check. I say that, because if people start writing tickets and confiscating gear, I'm saving my butt and my gear.
Fish Connection usually has 3 day or season out of state licenses and they are exit 79 off RT395 south. Stay left to avoid the casino exit and follow until that exit road ends, turn right on RT12 I think but where it ends, Fish Connection is up on the left a few hundred yards. Phone to confirm cost/availability is 860 885-1739. You can then go up RT12 into Norwich Harbor or back up 395 to exit 80, east a few miles into the harbor. The ramp is right across the street from the construction site.
Jenn I assume Saturday works as well or better for you and for anyone else I'd guess as well. Let me know though I want to get guys to fish with and split the gas.
Thanks.
Got Stripers 03-05-2003, 02:01 PM Don your mailbox is full, call me in my office or send me an email with your number. I need to know if your local and where/how it makes sense to meet you or send you.
I just cleared some PM's...
STEVE IN MASS 03-05-2003, 02:07 PM Cool, GS.....but I'm out for Saturday.....aside from my obligations that day, and because it's a Saturday, I'd prefer others that can't do it during the week had the chance to go - I've gone with you before, and as of now, still have the opportunity to participate on the weekdays, when and if you do that, so hope someone else can step up and enjoy it....:)
Have a blast, catch a lot!!!!.....:)
Fish Connection opens at 8:00am.
I tried to see if temporary out of state licences were available online...
Unfortunately they are not.
Is there anyone in CT who could grab the one or two that would be needed for Saturday if I sent out a money order?...
This would save us time on Saturday...
JohnR 03-05-2003, 02:37 PM Don - as long as they have the licenses (call to make sure they are not out) it takes just a couple minutes to do. The times I've gone I have been in and out real quick...
Great!:D
I cannot even begin to explain how stressful the past couple of weeks have been.
This is just the therapy a guy needs!
All I need now is a good boat rod!...
JohnR 03-05-2003, 02:57 PM GS can say for sure but all I've ever used were schoolie rods...
Got Stripers 03-05-2003, 03:09 PM Don, a freshwater bass rod in 6-7 foot and rated for 3/8-1 oz is all you need, basically a ML or MH freshwater spinner, size 200 reel with 6-8 lb mono. This is light (light) vertical and some horizontal fishing with 4 inch plastic on 3/8-1/2 oz jig heads. Forget the heavy stuff, leave it home. I'll get on the phone with you later, so we can work out if it makes sense to drive together or met at the ramp, I don't know where you are located.
GS,
I'm in Tiverton.
I'm in range of 195 westbound if that works out for you.
I'll talk with you more on that later.
Feel free to call anytime this evening.
Don
Got Stripers 03-05-2003, 03:23 PM It's up to you, but might be better to just meet me there. I'm in Halifax and go out 495/95/295/395 to Norwich, about 1-1/2 hours. Up to you, we can talk.
GS I may try to hop skip and jump over the border and pick up license night before if I can so 8-8:30 is good.....if not 8:30 should give me enough time to get it that morning
Don I can make a call and see what info is needed and I would be glad to grab one for you too if you want.
Got Stripers 03-05-2003, 08:16 PM Ok boys and girls, we are good to go, 8-8:30 at the ramp. In cash you don't know what to look for, see home page picture:). By the way, sometimes I can't sleep and get there early and will be out fishing. Go to the docks closest to the green lund fishing, wave and yell frantically and I will come get you:).
wave and yell frantically and I will come get you.
PROMISE??? or will you pretend not to know us and laugh like he**!!????
MountainBreeze 03-05-2003, 08:54 PM Have a great time out there and, as I say, "Can't wait to see some pics!!!" :D
Tight Lines,
Rob
BTW:
Thanks for the info on using a sweet water bass rod for schoolies. I was thinking I'd need a better rod than the cheap, 2 piece, PENN I started with last year. That's why I was bummin' I hadn't finished my 7' rod yet. (And a 9' is next.)
But, sounds like my 6'8" St. Croixs could be the ticket until "the cows come home." ;)

schoolie monster 03-06-2003, 02:14 PM The 3 day out of state is $16 and as of last saturday, the fish connection had them.
Don't wait until GS has 10 fish in the boat to try his 4 1/2" smoke split-tail... its a waste of your time.
Good luck everyone and remember, minus 10 points for @ss-hooking a fish.
STEVE IN MASS 03-06-2003, 02:19 PM $16?.... ....ouch....last year when I went with GS it was either $7 or $8......
Got Stripers 03-06-2003, 07:59 PM Yeah, they double their rates, the season I bought went from 20 to 40, but well worth if for me. When you compare it to other states, they are just getting their rates competitive. People still do opt to fish without a license, I personally would rather not take the chance, but then again I'm down there enough to make it worth my while.
MountainBreeze 03-08-2003, 07:54 PM How'd you folks make out today???
Rob
mrmacey 03-08-2003, 08:12 PM they made out im so envious of you guys i bet you had a hell of a day!!!
he kicked my but of course!!!:D :D
GOOD NEWS: it was GREAT to get out and catch a few fishies...
BAD NEWS: I knew when I got up this morning I didnt feel "quite right"......well I went home and took it easy.....now I am BURNING up and feeling pretty crappy...:( :( :( (GS...its almost FUNNY though since we talked about "crazy bacteria".....)
Got Peroxide???;)
Got Stripers 03-08-2003, 10:07 PM Jenn I told you to wash up with industrial strength disinfectant:), sorry your under the weather. It was a beautiful afternoon and we did catch some fish in March,so my streak is alive. Hope you fell better soon.
