2 gallons water....a ramp laced with peanut butter and corn/sunflower seeds...

and a cleverly placed aluminum plate "diving board" balanced on the edge of the bucket...just far enough not to reach....

WHAMMO Uncle Salty's coming for you %$%$%$%$ers LOL

5 gallon homer bucket....fill to the top of P in paint with water...

30" piece of wood ramped to top from ground...tape to bucket so the %$%$%$%$ers can't kick it off....

fill the water with seeds-they will float....you don't want to see water....it takes about 2-3 quarts of seeds at each "refill"

Put a 4"x8" piece of metal I used aluminum balanced on the bucket top....peanut butter and seeds on the plate...far nuff away that they have to jump over to it. powee gone. LOL

no camera at home so no pics sorry. friggin pets bastids probably targeting my house for bombs now

I thought your rodent problem was The Skunk. :grins:

I've got a bunch of chipmunks living under my deck and my shed. I need to get rid of them soon. I've filled their holes with rocks but they just dig a new hole around it in a few days. Last year I used a powder that seemed to keep them away. I can't remember the name, but it was in a blue cannister and was made out of pepper to keep critters away.

If they seem like they're increasing in numbers, it's because they are!
Just like there are more squirrels this year.
If we have a wet and warm spring, the squirrels, chipmunks and most other rodents will breed more than once, and start ealier than usual. The reason is an ample supply of food, mainly seeds and berries. The forces of nature will take their toll as the number of predators increase as well, and finally when winter comes again, they will not all survive.

We go through cycles like this every few years.

i have no trouble catching them at ALL

i use the smallest have -a -hart trap

i use half a slice of bread that's been spread with
peanut butter ...then ....I take black sunflower seeds
and mush them into the peanut butter for bait.

the door with the straight rod is the one i keep closed.

but first, i open it halfway and slide the 1/2 piece of bread
into the exact center just behind the door.

i then close it and lock it.

i set the trap against something so that the trip lever
is less accessible sitting on just half of the flat or 2/3rds
of the trip tray lever. they have to crawl over it to get to it.

i place a couple of small stones outside the lock catch
on the propped open door
and one larger one or maybe a brick on top of the
trap to keep-er steady.

it sometimes only takes ten minutes to catch them this way.

i even caught a squirrel in that lil ole trap the other day. :uhuh:

After trapped place the whole trap in a plastic trash bag and attach opening to the exhaust pipe of a car/truck, start her up, and fill the bag with that nice odorless gas! Come back in an hr or so and have your moment of victory (or silence).

Import some snakes, they'll take care of them real quick!

when i was out west we had lotsa gophers
so i'd be excavating their main tunnel

"the gopher super highway below ground"
and setting a bar trap to squish their gut...
and killem....

I also was in the habit of feeding snakes into their holes
to "drive them out"

well ,,one day i get home from some errands
and i go check the trap to see if the bar was up
and sure enough it was....

cool i say....i got one of those MF-ers finally

and i go to grab the trap for a "look see"
picking it up with my right hand
bending down at the knees...

i get it like a foot out of its spot
and it shot back out of my hand like a rubber band
and scared the living beejeezus out of Me...

turns out i caught the gopher snake
and he was wicked pissed off
with the gopher in his belly
HE was STUCK ....

Try something a little less volatile for starters (please): put a water hose in the tunnels and drown/force them to new cover! Tactic worked when I was a youngster trying to get rid of a rat colony. You can even stand at the "other" entrances/exits with a shovel and smash the basterds as they come out for some fun.

PR BUZZ i've used so much freakin water it's ridiculous. They run out of the holes after about 30 seconds and then they're back the next day. This damage is fresh overnight the thing literally moved enough material to make a burrow 5' under the pool. The liner has already sagged into the burrow. Next is 18,000 gallons of water going byebye

I am starting to think that just running a torch line into the burrow for a few minutes even without detonating would be enough to gas the things dead? I couldn't imagine even a chipmunk could stay alive having to breath propane for a few minutes.:hang::wid::behead::rumble::rumble::banano:

I've got some leftover 3/4 stone I'm going to put a berm around the outside of the pool more than the stone that's there already after dinner.

i was even more enthusiastic about watchin the birds...chasin off squirrels that robbed the feeders

and my Dad says to me.... after noticing all the maple trees looked like friggan HELL ..... in the late spring and summer...

i wonder whats wrong with them Craig?

i said: I know exactly why ! they have so few leaves DAD.
the squirrels are chewing the buds off the trees because they are SWEET as maple sugar.

he then bought me the hav a hart trap and i'd set it and sit there all day
watching it.... for hours on end.... perfecting my squirrel catchin ability to an ART form...

the reason you need the smallest one for the chippy's is because they don't weigh as much and sometimes they won't trip the bait lever on the big one.

the squirrels i relocated to the Charles river area after spray painting the tip of their tail silver ....so if they came back i'd know it.

soon, i was shooting silver tipped squirrels :) with the trusty ole Sheridan pellet gun with the weaver scope before school

to my back porch...just 60 feet away

so i grab the hose one morning...turned it on
shoved it in the hole....
and sat down outside to have my coffee like normal

I sprinkled about a pint of clorox all around the side of the pool. The whole area smells like clorox now so hopefully he won't be able to find the burrow again. If you could see the damage holy crap. 3-6' long burrows right across the bottom of the pool liner. This is not good. Course if he's inside I just wasted my time. If the hole opens tomorrow he's getting Salty's customized gas chamber.

NOTHING like the smell of skunk. I actually enjoy the smell I think it's pisser neat that mother nature could make something so vile that it pollutes air for a 1/2 mile in every direction :hee: My wife thinks I'm wacked. She's right.

If you need a skunk attractant, just hang a bunch of your plugs along the lip of your pool :hihi:

well the clorox worked...no digging around that area but there's a fresh small hole about 10' away. Scratching my head because he ate through the weed cloth under the stone but the hole isn't big enough for anything to get in or out yet...

time for the propane :devil2:

The war is over. It's been 3 days since I've seen one in the yard. I lost count how many chipmunks we got I think 5 total and at least a few mice..

fwiw a match on a stick works well. And quick

House sitting my girlfriend's parent's home in Truro and the cat just brought one into the house alive. Carrying the thing from the back of the neck like it was a kitten. Dropped it, then caught it again. Girlfriend screamed. Scooted the rodent out the door.

She keeps closing the screen door and I 'accidentally' keep leaving it open whenever I go outside (secretly hoping the cat does it again).

My tunneling problems have stopped. Bleach works to kick them out of the burrows for good. So does propane :hee:

I haven't seen any kicking around the garage now. The shop however is a different story. BIG coyote behind the building this morning. Hope he had a nice chipmunk breakfast...they're living under my propane tanks now.

Watched her stalk and take down two more. Girlfriend ran and closed the door before the cat could get inside. I got yelled at again for keeping the door open.
