Hi Guys,

Im headed to Salisbury Beach in Mass for the week... Im excited to go fishing - from shore... Any advice on bait? locations? I am directly on the beach but from the town's website, I can't fish off the beach until 5pm to 10am..

Thanks for your help in advance.

Are you going to be fishing from a boat?
There is some great fishing in Newburyport and Newbury especially by boat.

Staying in Salisbury you will be about ten to fifteen minutes north of Newbury Mass., Surfland Bait & Tackle. They will give you plenty of good information where to fish for stripers from shore or boat.

Be very carefull in the Merrimack it takes a few lives every year, both boaters and shore fisherpersons

They are located on Plum Island, Plumb Island Blv. at the mouth of the Merrimack. Follow route 1A through Newburyport to Newbury

mackerel would be a good choice if you're chunking.

if your gonna be fishing the salisbury side i'd definatly fish the river side ( and you can fish it anytime) , for bait live macks have been hot lately but thats a bit tough by shore, get some frozen mac use large chunks or whole tinker macs or even whole macs , if you;d like pm me and i can give you some better location ideas, i fish by boat but ...usually do ok
i just got back (fished 6-12 yesterday) and it was the slowest day for me yet this year 5 fish 28-32" and some shortys...
good luck!

If your fishing the sand beach ocean front use sand worms, on a single hook fish finder rig. use a float on your leader to keep the worm off the bottom 3 or 4 oz. pyramid sinker in medium surf, I your fishing in the river go to the Salisbury state park get out on the jetty or near it use herring chunks same rig this time use a 2 oz. bank sinker no float let it drift in the current I found any time is a good time there.

Tattoo is absolutely correct. :buds: Perfect advice Bob.
That fish the beach rule is mostly for when the beach is packed. If it's a slow day and not many people you can fish, nobody will bother you. Your best bet is fishing incoming at sunrise or sunset anyway.(on the beach)
