does anyone do this on the side? I't's a small problem 7hp evenrude I just can't keep it running the rubber ball on the hose won't stay firm and may need a tune up.

Seriously though, these are not hard to fix. Is is very old? Make /Model? Sounds like a fuel issue. I bet with a little time you could repair this yourself. (as long as nothing is seriously broken) Bringing an outboard in for repair this time of year can be a problem.

I would simply start buy changing all fuel filters, spark plugs and any ignition wires that look questionable. Then make sure you have fresh clean fuel. Make sure that fuel line and filters are like new. If the engine is old and you have been running the new gas in it you probably have an ethanol problem eating away at the internal rubber components and you may need to replace a few seals and gaskets. Are there any fuel leaks?
You may need to replace the fuel line as well. Sometimes ethanol can deteriorate the fuel line itself. Does it feel soft with you pinch it? It should be pretty firm. What happens is parts of the rubber hose break off and then go into the engine...ethanol is a nightmare for (some) older boats and motors.

For starters a real simple / cheap fix, I would start by replacing the ball. It is common for them to go bad over time.
