Tuna fishing was not so good but while cruising & searching for life way out east of Stellwagen bank we came up on an estimated 15+ ft Great White shark. Had it on the surface for quite a while and followed it around. Got the boat up in front of it and shut the motors down while it kept coming towards the boat. Had the beast as close a 50ft off the transom and it went under the boat ! Just wish we took a few seconds to snap some pictures instead of trying to feed it some baits !

I'll take some pictures for ya.....but it ain't gawna be easy!! This fish!!! Swallow you whole!!! A little shakin'.....a little tenderizin'.....and down you go!!!:rotf2:

IMO the environmentalists have gone too far and frankly should be to blame for the unnatural and overpopulation of seals this far south. When a human does get consumed (and it will happen within a few years, I think the family of the deceased will have grounds for suing all the environmental agency's who brought this upon us. Skomal has documented something like 150 seals that there attacked some bit clean in half and these weigh like 400 #. Further the explosion of the the pups born on these sand islands is insane. 10 years ago on Muskegut there were 3 or 4 last season it was 2000+! This winter I saw the skomal tagging videos (really cool I might add) and some of these fish were right on the other side of the breakers in one case a couple hundred yards from surfers. They will nab a person soon, no question, honestly, I think maybe this season.

Further their (the environmental groups) over protection of the cormorant,geese and other birds have lead to a poisoning of our salt ponds and closure for shellfishing and soon swimming. several years ago the groups insisted it was not the birds it was the septic systems, golf courses even George Bush's fault. But 30,000 dollars later of independent DNA tests (funded by donations) prove that 98% of the fecal matter in the ponds are from birds (mainly cormorants and geese) and only a small fraction of a percent was from other mammals . Now we hear silence from from them. The ponds are poisoned with bird waste (not mankind) BECAUSE OF THEM! and they should be held accountable. They sure jump on private companies when they pollute...how about looking in the mirror for once.:af: I am pissed I can not clam in my own salt pond because of them goddamnit.

saw a huge seal with a HUGE gash behind it's neck dying on the beach as we went by the tip of monomy on our way back from tuna fishin last tuesday. went it faced into the current one way it was the wound stayed closed, but when turned the other way you could see it's backbone, pretty cool. we ran up to it to get a closer look and the seal rolled itself into the water but wouldn't go more than 10-15 yds. past the beach. we think the attack had just taken place and we hung around for a few to see if it was going to finish him off.

Sharks. Notwithstanding the other provisions of this part, a person may fish for white sharks ( Carcharodon carcharias ) with rod and reel, provided the person releases such fish to the sea immediately with a minimum of injury, and that such fish may not be removed from the water.

Tuna have been tearing into schools of sea herring and occasionally mackerel as close as the B-Buoy. But there’s a far more sinister presence out there. When I asked Captain Mike Bousaleh if there were any mackerel off Hull left, he answered in the affirmative and even told me of an encounter with the granddaddy of all the mackerel sharks – a Great White. He and buddy and fellow charter captain, Ronnie Munafo, were out by the BE Buoy targeting tuna when they saw the dorsal fin of a large shark. They originally surmised that it must be a porbeagle, and considering that they make fine sport and fine table fare, they readied the steel leaders and live bait and cut the engines. As the shark drew nearer its size became clearer and they could see that this was far larger than any porbeagle shark had a right to be. As it cruised just below the transom, they got a good look at its enormity and unquestionably this was the big guy on the bank, a great white.
The shark didn’t give their live pogies so much as a sniff, but a clue as to a possibly sated belly appeared a short distance away.
