View Full Version : I don't get it...
mrstriper 07-04-2010, 08:51 AM Fished last nights drop with Biteme at a spot that has tons of structure, cold water, tons of 4" bait, sweeping current and other larger bait jumping out of the water( Poagies???Shad???), and all I got was three hits/dropped fish. All on white loaded redfin.
They wouldn't hit needles(5-7+ "), darters( yozuri, superstrike), mambos, dannys, etc.
Guess the stripers have not found this spot yet:wall:
weird year...
numbskull 07-04-2010, 09:50 AM Try it again, next time without Jim.
there is 4" bait literally everywhere on the north shore. there is also mackerel. guess what the bass are on. are there sand eels off race point again this year?.........
mrstriper 07-04-2010, 05:15 PM ???5" barrows clear plastic swimmer with a yellow sharpie line on top...might have been the ticket...
George, the man should have a memorial parking spot.

soooooo the bass are on BAIT,
and you tried EVERYTHING but bait~~~
how's about eeeeeeeeels, or chunks, or swim shads at the same place?
if it helps,,,,,,,,,,,,,i can't seem to raise them either.
plastique, wood, rubber, eeeels, and chunks~~~
no go in Rhody over the w/e at sum typically very feeshy spots.
will be concentrating on deep water close,
meat FIRST, artificials last, and darkness(New or Clouds).
this coming heat wave sux; but, it will bring us closer to the New when it is over.
Typhoon 07-05-2010, 09:01 AM The tuna in the middle of the bay are focused on these micro sand eels.
My neighbor on the dock was pitching live macks into busting tuna and they were so keyed in on the sand eels they wouldn't touch the macks.
Slipknot 07-05-2010, 09:05 AM redgill
PaulS 07-05-2010, 09:50 AM redgill
After every year the question I say is why didn't I throw redgills more?
Pete F. 07-05-2010, 10:02 AM swimsenko
mrstriper 07-05-2010, 10:12 AM I probably should have tried the 4" redgills...been awhile...just an off year for me...then I read a post about the first Rhode Island 50#er and how some are making catching 40#ers look simple:wall:...what are they throwing(gotta be eels/bait), how deep do you think their waters are etc. etc. gets a man thinking...
ProfessorM 07-05-2010, 12:38 PM Ha ha , got a nice high 30 lber on a live eel last nite in the boat where you and Jim were last week until you begged him to take you home. Was slow though as we only could get 1 other 36" fish but we had only 5 eels. Did mark several big fish. We also dragged tubes from 4 till 8 out front and did not even mark a fish. Bad. Gave up and went home as it was too hot. Beautiful night weather wise.
mrstriper 07-05-2010, 01:21 PM Nice job Paul...how deep was that 30#er, and did you use weight...we found so many fish last week and could not get them to hit(even live eels)...we were thinkin' that we should bust out the tubes(my least favorite way of fishing, but at times highly productive), but maybe not yet.
I think I just suck...:fury::smash::uhuh:
numbskull 07-05-2010, 01:29 PM Ha ha , got a nice high 30 lber on a live eel last nite in the boat.
.......and you admitted this in public! What's next, joining the Moonies?
Grapenuts 07-05-2010, 03:55 PM a well rounded fisherman uses every means there is to get the job done,..and that job is to catch fish where ever he is at that moment ....be it by land or sea....spoons-jigs-live/dead bait-tubes even plugs at times[:yak5:]...
congrats on a nice fish P.
Tagger 07-05-2010, 04:12 PM take the treble off the belly of your plug ... snag the bait and cast out as far as possible ..

.
Granted, but since when is Paul a well-rounded fisherman?
ProfessorM 07-05-2010, 06:34 PM LOL . I got to agree with George on that one. clueless is my middle name. I shoot for luck over skill most times. You crack me up.:biglaugh:
Ernie just a hook and an eel and drift in with tide. Probably like 20 feet of H2O. I was using my fluke rod and reel too. Never expected that. Call Jim I told him exactly where but you found them they just weren't interested that nite, or maybe it's you. I got lucky and just wanted to bust your nuggets.:uhuh: tonite would be a sweet nite to go.
mrstriper 07-05-2010, 07:03 PM Paul-thanks...I did talk to him...made me feel better(slightly) that you marked fish and only got 3 to hit...I say only with utmost respect...
Nuggets adequately busted:fury:
I will catch again some day...because I really wasn't that great at golf(92-102 no lessons...effin slice/baseball swing killed me...):uhuh:
Grapenuts 07-05-2010, 07:04 PM Granted, but since when is Paul a well-rounded fisherman?
give'um a few years more an the rounded part will sneek up on him like the rest of flock.
Just n time 07-06-2010, 08:22 AM E.B. throw the chiiiip! a 4inch tsunami rub olive with the red eyes, some berkley juice and let her rip, you know I throw that all the time and catch fish consistently on it. It really comes down to 4 or 5 choices that all work well. I would go 4 to 6 inch tsuami olive with the red eyes with berkley juice# 2 needle #3 blue or green redgill,#4 a 4 to 6inch black sluggo with maybe a 1oz egg wgt and of course the mighty eel. Problem with the red gill is you miss hits, I would also put BITEME's jointed cedar swimmer on the list. It's a plug I have more confidence in the more I use it and landed a nice 40inch fish on it last fall. I am going to bass pro for some new waders:jump1:The ll beans are done after 14 plus years.:fury:I'm going North to hit the surf Wenesday Night. I told Jimmy where and from what I just heard the bite is on pretty good..:uhuh:
johnny ducketts 07-06-2010, 10:15 AM I second the chip!
when we going fishing?
ProfessorM 07-06-2010, 11:03 AM Blasphemy. The chip is an evil, last resort, desperation move, device. Yeah E. maybe you should dip the chip.
mrstriper 07-06-2010, 07:27 PM AHHHH but the chip works and has actually ridden on the tin boat...:uhuh:
