Check that number, there is a 10,000 dollar tagged striper lurking in the ocean.

Looks like an American Littoral Society tag, yellow dorsal tag.

Try here; ALS Tagging Tagged Fish (http://www.littoralsociety.org/tagging_tagged_fish.aspx)

Since you released it without taking the tag, I wouldn't worry about it.

Send in the tag number and info, they will use it. Often you'll get a token reward (like a hat) for your trouble.

The info is still important. Check with one of the Jearsy clubs they should be able to help you

after looking at their website i dont think it was one of there tags, the website says there tags are yellow loop tags, this wasnt a loop tag as you can see.....

it looks like it could be a loop, but you can't tell under the seaweed, there is something else written under it

but then again that seaweed might not be there if it were not a loop.

did you take the seaweed off before release?

I am not an expert at all, that is just my observation
I never caught a tagged bass

it wasnt a loop, i did move the seaweed and take some off, didnt want to keep it out of water too long though plus the mouth was a bit rough and it wasnt easy lol.

You might want to contact these guys for info:

Berkeley Striper Club (http://www.berkeleystriperclub.org/)

Looks like the tag and number are consistent with their tagging program.

Normally you end up with a hat and a certificate of participation. I once got a GIS map that showed where it was originally tagged and where I eventually caught it, along with a projected route. Kinda cool.

it was a berkley striper club tag, i emailed fred, in a return email he said he was going to get me the tag info(when where how big etc) and i get a patch....pretty neat.

turns out the fish was tagged on may 27th 2010 off race point cape cod......so wasnt quite as big of a journey as we thought (yet). but its still swimming! still neat to be able to get the info...
