I'm looking to build a rod for a relative that would be a lighter eeling rod. Something between my Loomis 965 and a Saber 1088. But the blank must be a two peice. Where I have convinced said relative on the merits of chasing fish larger than two pounds, he insists that he carry his gear inside his car. Doesn't want to mess up the external appearance of his luxo-sedan if you know what I mean... I'm looking to build him a nice rod and will pay upto $100 (maybe more) for just the blank. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas...

I know, I know. Please have mercy on me!!! #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& can tell you how several years ago, I would drive down to Rhody with my 9' Sabre and 10' Lami bungie-corded to roof racks on my Fiero GT. You get alot of looks when barrelling down the highway at 80mph with fishing rods almost as long as the car your driving. I never had to take any passengers though as the only other seat was full with my waders, surfbag, and other fishing paraphernalia...

I really wanted to build another GL2965 for him but he really wants a two piece...

Doesn't his back seat fold down? I can fit a 9' pole in my wifes car that way but I guess if he's got other people in the car that could be a problem Or if he plans on leaving it in the car for those spur of the moment fishing urges.

As one of the terrible few who like to keep the rods in the car and in my own posession, I would recommned an All Star 1265/2 good for 3/4 to 3 oz. It's good for eeling on the beach and can even cast the little shoestrings we sometimes get.

John--I just ordered a 10-1/2' rod from Mike T built on the All Star 1266/2 blank. It breaks down into two equal sections, according to the specs on the blank. This will be a spinning rod. Might be a little to long to fit in a trunk, but it should still fit within a Yup-mobile.

I've bent the Breakaway factory model, and it seems to have more of an action similar to #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&'s old red Sabres than the newer ones.

I am mainly looking for something that an eel would be about the heaviest item cast in something 9' and under (he is historically a trout/schoolie guy be he's moving up to bigger fish) . I have an 8' Looims SU965 that is probably a little light even if it came 2 piece but wanted something between that and the current Saber 1088... I think JeffH is right on the money with the AllStar 1085/2 as it wouldn't be as stiff as my 1088 AllStar...

You may also want to consider a Lamiglas

Hi Jihn, Check out the GSH series at Lamiglas. Its under plain graphite , Steelhead rods. With a slight tip trim , the GSH108-2H would be pretty good for tossing eels as the high end weight. So many rods , so little time!
