technu is a preventative not a use after getting it
cure....even though i like it and use it...
so says my DOCTOR

if your hands are really bad

go get some prednizone (prescription) because it really
kicks the crap out of it....

and VERY worth it

also poison oak only grows out west
poison IVY grows in the east
i have tons of it around here

YOUR DOCTOR IS WRONG. Technu is something mixed with sawdust that causes the oils to come to the surface and dry up. The sawdust absorbs the oils. It's not a preventative it's a cure. I use it 3-4 times a year. It lessens the itch and makes the PI etc disappear overnight.

mute point considering the same exact oil is in both of them :wall:

you mean you mix the technu with saw dust before applying it?

Poison Ivy / Poison Oak - Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA (http://www.mgh.harvard.edu/conditions/condition.aspx?id=375)

TRUE the oils are similar

technu has the sawdust in it already.

Also don't recommend the steroid unless absolutely necessary. Steroids can cause rapid bone loss. Serious problem. Can happen overnight...

There are two main types of Poison Oak - Western(Pacific) & Atlantic.
http://dermatechrx.com/poisonivy/images/examples/Poak.gifWestern Poison Oak is only found on the Pacific Coast of the US and Canada. It can grow as a dense shrub or a climbing vine. Like Poison Ivy, leaves are a compound of three leaflets; however, the leaflets tend to have scalloped edges and often resemble the leaves of an oak tree. The color of the leaves range from light green to yellow-green to bright red, depending on the seasons. White flowers will also form in the spring and turn into white or tan berries as they develop. It is common that in the winter, Poison Oak plants will loose their leaves and only berries will remain. It is important to understand that even without the leaves, the Urushiol oil is present.
http://dermatechrx.com/poisonivy/images/examples/Aoak.gifAtlantic Poison Oak is found growing in forests, thickets and dry, sandy fields, usually throughout the Southeastern United States westward to Texas and Oklahoma. It can grow as an erect shrub up to 3 foot tall. The leaves are also a compound of three leaflets, which are usually hairy and often resemble white oak leaves. The color of the leaves range from green to yellow or orange in the fall. The berries are usually yellowish or greenish.

No wonder they only want you to use it rarely if at all

pink calamine lotion helps keep it dried up too

the brewers yeast shake for maximum B vitamins cocktail

...alcohol leaches all the b vitamins right out of you

Trust me when I say its poison oak.The borders of my property are loaded with it.There ain't any ivy or sumac leaf to be seen...just oak.

Technu is a major waste of money.91% Isopropyl Alc. does the same thing in the same amount of time.If the urushiol oil found in ivy,oak or sumac spends more than 10 mins on your skin you are screwed no matter what you use.

Its all about relieving the itch and drying the rash.99.9% of otc products suck.91% alc. is the best drying agent there is...my problem is the FREAKIN ITCH!!!!!!......I'M GOING INSANE!!!!!!

When I get rashes, the best stuff I've found is a hydrocortizone cream. Sometimes a benadryl cream or the tablets help relieve the itch as well, but the tablets cause drowsiness.

Prednisone is a nasty nasty drug. I'd try to avoid it at all costs. Causes all sorts of issues. They usually only provide prednisone if the rash covers 10+% of your body or it is on your face.

Most common side effects according to drugs.com:
"Difficulty sleeping; feeling of a whirling motion; increased appetite; increased sweating; indigestion; mood changes; nervousness.

I have always used brown laundry soap - phels naptha sp? I use it to wash up with then also make a paste and leave it on it. It dries it up quicker. Also try Jewel weed if you have it around - its a natural cure. Last but not least for brief relief - try a blowdryer and or hot water. Blasting it with heat for a bit almost feels like you are scratching it. It brings up some natural endorphines or something and really gives some relief. In fact it gets addictive

There's nothing that will help once it's reacted with your skin aside from real drugs. I think the Technu stuff does help if you can get it on fast...but it doesn't magically cure it.

Otherwise you just need to dry it out. There's nothing like the sensation of a hair dryer or hot shower on a bit of rash :hihi:

Just go to the Doctor and get the barry Bonds treatment (Steroids) it will start to clear up in a couple of days

I'm one of the fortunate ones who aren't allergic to urushiol. I've breathed in the smoke from burning poison ivy--admittedly unwittingly--without any ill effects.

A couple of weeks ago, while laying the wire for a Dogtra invisible fence, I found myself standing in a sea of poison ivy--wearing sandals. Never got the rash. I guess I'm still good.

My mother was never allergic to it either--until she turned 70 and found out that immunity can go away. So---I don't seek the stuff out to test my immunity ;)

I haven't seen a lot of poison oak around here--plenty of harmless scrub oak, though. Lots of people also mistake harmless wild raspberry for poison ivy. Wild raspberry has dull, serrated leaves that grow in clusters of three. Poison ivy has smooth, shiny, rubbery-looking leaves that grow in clusters of three, and usually sports red stalks.
