some big bones are around...9-11#er's have been caught already in the usual places, but it is not gangbusters (yet). I have not seen an albie inshore yet though but they should be here soon.

I would think with this warm summer we might get a nice run of King Mac's and Spanish Mac's like we did a few years ago. I recall seeing guys catch them in the harbor!! They are great fun.

PS I know of two small bluefin that were caught in the harbor and in nantucket sound looking for bones!

With the amount of bait down here I'd say the albies will show early this year. I'd guess mid month.

I caught a king mack trolling off the windmill house a few years ago. That was the same year we landed a bunch of Spanish from shore too.

bones are here now in good numbers, a friend got 10 the other day. Albies usually start to show the end of aug but really the action does not get going strong till early-mid sept. I agree, I think it could be early this year...I would say the first week in sept is a good bet but as always...."your mileage may vary"

I plan on being out both Sat/Sun in MV Sound, Gay Head area.

I plan on hitting Lucas shoal and Hedge fence for these guys, Just gota filter out the bluefish. Any report to what size the fish that where taken?

Yup, plenty of bonito out there, just got home with 2 in the cooler. Both about 8 pound fish, Mant many blues as well, almost as mant blues as Boats!

Spent our day on Lucas Shoal, Gay Head and Noman's: no bonito or albies. Did boat a (almost) 6lb fluke along with 5 others (22-24"). Scup bite was hot and so were the black sea bass. An of course a Bloooooooo on a fluke rig.

If you are trolling, try well off the rip or zig zag over the rip to avoid bluefish. Troll small swimming plugs (rapala sliver, fast track rebels, yozuri crystal minnows or deep divers....or small jigs (the hairballs work). Jack your boat speed up a notch.

If casting, deadly #^&#^&#^&#^&s, maria jigs, yozuri L jacks, swedish pimple, small jigs (again the hairball works) all work. You can also throw crystal minnows or spofford needles.

Guys also like sluggo's (particularly for blitzing albies) but I have no experience doing that. You can also chum (sandeels or spearing) and drift baits on small hooks back into the slick...supposedly this is the surest way to get them.

Bonito love sandeels and spearing, they attack from behind like bluefish. Albies love peanuts and anchovies......they inhale their prey like bass, from any angle.

The most fun way to get them is fly fishing. Bonito like white skinny flies......the bonito bunny is a good place to start. Albies are harder and often very fussy (blueball city), but crease flies, sandeel flies, and short fat chartruse/white deceivers are what I've settled on as working for me. When casting into a blitz with a fly, get it moving fast for bonito, but slower for albies. Get ready to be humbled.

Couldn't find either albies or bonito yesterday. Searched from Hedge Fence area all the way to Gay Head.

We did accomplish another feat: Eelskimmer's first scup and Black Sea Bass, congrats John. We had a pretty fast drift, so once we told him if you think your on the bottom, let out another 10' line: BAM! I think he boated the biggest BSB of the day.

Ride back to Fairhaven was a little sloppy but the bouncing was broken by a feeding frenzy of skiddish, blues in Quick's Hole.

Spent yesterday looking for hard tails from menesha to skibby and back. Nada!
Just some small blue fish , that got me exited when about a hundred of them started busting silver sides all at once , form a distance it sure looked like Albies.
