Hey Guys, I was thinking about grabbing some eels tonight and forcing them into an arctic slumber overnight to use in the morning. As long as I can negate them choking on their own slime, will they survive until the morning? Thanks!

YES, what I do is cut a 5 gal bucket to fit in my cooler. Then I drill tons of holes in the bottom of the bucket. Put ice on bottom of cooler around bucket, then put eels in bucket. If you leave the drain open the slime runs out and the eels a kept very nice for the next morning, I have left them for as long as 12 hours

I bring home some of the bubble weed and freeze it so when I buy eels I can keep them alive while in transport. When I have leftovers I bring them home and put them in a 5 gallon bucket with about 3 gallons of water (I leave 5 uncapped gallon size bottles of water out overnight to allow the chlorine to evaporate) and use an aquarium air pump, hose and air stone (Walmart has all of it cheap). After filling the bucket with the water refill the bottles so you can change some of the water daily. They will last for days as long as you do the 30% water changes each day and keep the water aerated. Keep the bucket with the eels out of direct sunlight so the water does not get hot.

Wow,
I just keep em in a plastic bag on ice. No more than 3 eels to a bag and they always last overnight. Never had one die in under 24 hours on me.
