There has been a tuna fish blitz going on now for the past three weeks. Friends of mine that have been going, have been bringing in three fish just about every day. They come in with their three fish, fuel up and head back out to catch three more the next day. The boat pictured had three fish all 400lbs. or better.

Ipswich Bay has a few fish being caught. there are 50 - 60 boats in the bay on any given day and only 3 or 4 fish being caught. Small percentage considering the number of boats.

Niko: Georges is about 160 miles from here, it must be about 130 from the Cape. Couple of boats are putting on extra 55 gal. drums of fuel.

There's a video on facebook of hand feeding 500 lbers. It's sick.

I talked to a couple of people who went, it's the most unreal fishing experiences of their lives. 3 slobs in a few hours.

My 28 fter is not going to make it.

I hear the bite is 25 miles east of Cultivator shoal. I have not gone myself but hear the chitchat on the radio... So take this as hearsay.

The price of bluefin is falling...I think it hit a low of 3 bucks but it might be back up to 6 now. I would love to come in with 3 giants though:jump1:

Any bets on whether the BFT will come closer to shore, i.e. Stellwagon or PHB, later this Fall before heading south. 100+ miles out......:err:

Next stop george's bank......just waiting for a break in the weather...(and the 100 gallon fuel bladder to arrive)

I heard the USCG was out there the other day turning small boats back to port that were carrying fuel bladders. Also they were turning more substantial boats back if they didn't have a sat phone or SSB. I guess some guy was attempting to make the run in a 25'er.

Some of these guys were running 180 miles from Hyannis...

If you go, be careful esp if you have a < 35' boat. You don't want this to be a one way trip.

If I was younger and single...I would do it in my boat but not now. 180 is a haul even if you have the range.

Two legal size fish were caught on the NW corner Monday.

damn, i wonder what legal grounds they have to turn boats around? Most likely under Commercial Fishermans act or something? yeah, we have a sat phone and all the other stuff. The boat is a 37 duffy. Plan was to bring a 100 gallon bladder just incase. We will see.

A friend of mine fishing out there in his 40 footer said that there were two 22' center consoles fishing and they did catch.

The Gloucester fleet named the center consoles, "Death Wish one & two."

Someone's going to get killed because of the "fever"

People that are thinking of going out that far or are going should check their boat insurance. Some boat insurance only covers a boat up to a certain distance from shore.

There have been so many fish caught from Gloucester to New Bedford and in between the prices have dropped. They have flooded the market. This past Monday was a holiday in Japan, market was closed till Tuesday which also didn't help prices.

Were they really 22's or were those the CC 26's.

Either way - crazy. But at least the cc 26 is diesel and a good seaboat.

btw- good call on the insurance. All marine policys have navigation limits - you have to get the underwriter to extend you to go that far.

Jay how big is your boat?

A few of the GH guys are going in 36s with fuel bladders.

31' - a little small for that run.

We extended the navigation limits on the insurance 3 weeks ago. Been sitting on the sidelines thinking about it since.

trying to find a really really good weather window where we don't have a charter is difficult.
