Been catching these in varying sizes in the local harbor amongst small herring, bluefish, spike macs and a variety of other small fish. No one can identify it? Smooth and curved line but very sharp when you go against the scales/lateral line.

Thanx!

Tough to tell for sure with the reflection. Maybe a peanut bunker?

Closest thing on the link would be a sardine as the tail is similar but I cannot find any baitfish with that curved lateral line. Unusual. I am thinking it is some variation of a herring but I will keep searching it. Some were more than 6 inches long, all of them "thumped" like a drum when taken outta the water and one of them turned green when it died.

I landed a 10lb.+ bluefish at Scorton last week that proceeded to puke up a bunch of 6" bait fish all over the boat. I had never seen this type of bait fish before.

There was one that looked like it had just fallen victim and it looked just like the one in your pan.

I've never heard of a scad, are they a migratory species or always around. It would be great if we could cast net some.
