Just wondering if there would be interest in a forum to network members' services or work opportunities. Hope this does not step on any sponsor's toes.... (I'm trying to fill a hole in my schedule, as I just had a 12 week addition/remodel project put on hold until spring. We were to pull permits this coming week.......)

I think this is a great idea. I am someone who was cursed with the talent of not being able to nail 2 boards together. I constantly need some help around the house and would like to give some business to people I sort of know.

I agree. I'd feel better giving the business to someone here rather than taking a flyer on someone in the Yellow Pages.

I like this idea, maybe a new forum organized by skill sets?

construction
mechanical
electrical
plumbing
roofing
flooring
computers
fitness
coaching
insurance
finance

and i mean that most Sincerely

not only is this a good idea...........

but we could formulate an S-B army of craftsmen
and occasionally storm into a needy situation
and make it RIGHT with S-B power :uhuh:

I would like to specialize in Auto repairs for
S-B fishermen who have salt rot holes
and make them history....

did the ole ladies car yesterday from 5 am to 5 pm
and it looks like a brand new car... she said...
she is ultimately Jazzed ....

i have some finishing touches to do
but i made it
all sealed back up for this week of rain...
then i'll continue with the finer mini dents

this would apply to repairs on boats too
or any fiber glass work - in the off season
or even emergencies... ( say rock collisions)
so i can work for myself Part time of course.

.....i'll consider trades too...if you pay for the gas
and materials i use... whatever... Jimmy i'll teach how to
bang a nail any day ya want ! just for the FUN of it
(someday) :grins:

just like MR Miagi ---> focus! Daniel San .... LOL

I had always wanted to post something similar when I was doing Health and Life insurance for self employed/ small businesses here, not so much as a way to find business, but more to help the people in our "club" that pay for their own crap and could use my expertise, especially always seeing grumpage about the costs and questions surrounding insurance....But also felt I didn't want to step on any toes with the sponsors for this site.......Would be a truly beneficial forum, but also could be a double edged sword with competition.......Hate to mix business and play....same line as family and money........

That's always been the worry redlite. The benefits are obvious but the potential problems are the same as we sometimes see in the Buy Sell Trade Forum. Someone comes out of a deal feeling screwed and then they blame the site for allowing it to happen when the site is really just acting like a bulletin board in these cases.

Tough call!

Agreed with the 2 posts above. Real double edged sword.

I agree on the double sword and think things should be handled on a case by case, maybe have it reviewed based on how large the job is or how reputable that individual is,and I also feel that a percentage should be given back to the site and if there is any extra money in the S-B kitty could it be passable to have a S-B function or two?

well , you can possibly avoid that if it's strictly a trade...

just a thought....

I cant really offer up any services other than being someone who would hire folks from this site. I have already received advice and help from several of you and have to say the people have all been great. I would certainly always try to help out a fellow SB'er than someone else, never looking for deals, just honesty in service.

If ya kept it strictly a trade services for something of value
that the person happens to have but no longer a use for....

BEING that it's just the item you've been wanting to acquire

then it's strictly "BARTER "

and is NOT taxable

So... anyone looking into replacement windows or doors? Tax credit will run out on these at end of year. Usually takes 4-5 weeks to get windows after ordering. Happy to come out to measure. Also looking for kitchen, bath, basement remodeling projects. Interior trim, crown molding, coffered ceilings, etc. Will consider small projects as well. Have worked for S-B members I could have you PM for references.
Just looking to fill this three month void I have due to a cancellation.

I'm all for it but my biggest concern is how do I make sure you all get good service (not a problem 90% of the time) and prevent myself getting sued and screwed the other 10 % of the time.

Something I've wanted to do for a while but haven't been able to come up with a good, safe way.

And I get to monopolize the small biz / computing stuff :tooth:

I've needed a landscaper, boat mech, etc.
