45.3lbs caught this morning around 3am. After around 2000 casts it was finally in the cardsafter a heart breaker last week that had to go close to 50 that broke off 3 feet from the rock I was fishing.

The best part of it all for me was spending a few minutes in the surf with her and watching her swim away. There isnt anything in the world that can duplicate that feeling.

Thanks for all the replies. I let most fish over 25lbs go as they contribute in a very large way to the future of this sport. I do keep the occasional 28-36" fish for the table but very much enjoy seeing them swim off. Some quick pics and weight and they are usually back in the water in under 2 minutes after I get my hands on them. I spent some extra time with this one in a very rough surf, which only added to the memory. After a lot of hard work I feel very grateful she passed my way, finally. Still hoping for that 50..............I know they are here where I fish. I might have very well had one on last week. I bit of patience and maybe she will come.

Great fish, and great job on the release! Nothing like seeing large swimming away after a good battle - especially in the big surf.

I would have tackled that fish that broke off only three feet away. Tackling is catching!!!!!!!!!

Nice 45 #er though.

Swimmer...I have "tackled" before but in a different spot...the moring I lost "her" the sea was humming, near top of incoming, car and basketball side boulders all sides and a "hole" right out in front thats probably 15' at full tide.....not a good place to find yourself @ 2:30am. Temping,yes...but those days were 10 years ago!
