Here is a through wire drilling rig. I got the idea from a member of another board after he made one. It works great. I drilled 25 plugs with only 1 casualty (I drilled the plug from 1 end only, even though I know ya need to drill half way and flip then drill other end to meet in middle)

Toolhauz, either West Bridgewater or Needham. $11.00. 12" long with 8" of flute, polished HSS. Much nicer than Sears (I have both). The longer flutes require less clearing as you through drill a plug. The drilled out wood has to go some place and the flutes are the only place they can go. If you only have 3" of flutes as in the Sears, you have to remove the bit twice as often to clear the sawdust.

I have one of those from Toolhauz also, but they are not in West Bridgewater anymore, they have been back in Middleboro for about 3-4 years. They do Have a store just off 128 in Needham. I think they will ship stuff also. You are right it is a good bit but I always start the hole with a shorter bit first to keep it from wandering.

home depot in west roxbury has them now(they used to have nothing but they got a tun more stuff). 1/8th 12", and 3/16 12" around 6 dollars. the 3/16 are better bits than the 1/8 there.
do they make brad point 3/16 long drill bits? i have some problems with the bit grabbing the grain and veering off center.

I used to get my bits from WL Fuller, but their factory burned down on Monday. Hopefully they will get back up and running in a new facility.

Howdie, I too get mine from WL Fuller, I get the long fluted ones in a brad point, but I have them remove the two outside tips. This makes the drill hold center much better.

Dave,
I, like most of us, belong to both :D
Glad it's working out for you!
