Was fishing this weekend, noticed something funny with the roller on my VS200......Then i noticed two of the three screws used to hold the "roller mount" to the reel were missing! I assume I can just call VS and have a couple sent out. Question is: Should I use lock-tite when I put the screws back in? Seems like they would just back out again without a lock washer....THX

i'm sure you can call a repair center, like rivers end and they can get a couple to you. i've never had that happen with any of my vs'- maybe yours would benefit from loctite- i'd use the blue (removable) as opposed to the red (not so removable).

Gotcha. I called VS direct and ordered a couple of screws ($0.51 each).. Will probably hit them with a little loc-tite just to be on the safe side.

by the way, am I the only one that finds it crazy that they charged me 51 cents for a screw that fell out of a 2 year old reel? lol

I had the same.I called VS and they sent me 3 new ones for free.I used a real light machine screw grade loctite.I walked into a few VS dealers and asked them only to get laughed at.They said " It's an 800 dollar reel we just send them back and they fix them".I said I'll take the screws off the dusty one thats been on the shelf for three years and they can get some new screws.Yeah that didn't happen.

Adam - thanks for posting the schematic.....that makes things easier!!!! yeah, I kind of figured they would just send out a 51 cent screw, given it was a 800 dollar, two year old reel. ohh well.

I would just take it to a hardware store and find the screws that fit it, no way VS has custom threads for their screws, just go easy when you start them in the hole, some small metric screws are very close to standard thread sizes.

Same thing happened to me last night.Only I lost the whole line roller and the screws.I had no warning they were loose untill it was gone!

I took it down to Q at Rivers End and his view is that this kind of failure is an anomaly.He went on to say that VS does not recomend the use of "Loctite" on these screws.His personal opinion was not to use loctite in the event the roller gets bent and needs replacement,it could be an issue getting them out.I agree with this.I will pay more attention to this part of the reel in the future.

As allways,the best service at Rivers End and Pat even shared some of his lunchtime calzone with me.I love those guy's.....

2 people just had their screws come out, so not much of an "anomaly"; 2 too many

Loctite will soften if you use heat. Heat gun no torch. Red for sure is HD loctite. Blue is ample for reel screws and removes virtually w/o heat. Use Loctite all the time as a auto tech.
