Bought a bunch of butternut squash on sale at Daves Market for 29 cents a pound. That's a great price since most now charge 79 to 99 a pound. These were local grown and i love butternut squash that is mashed with butter and a little pepper or baked with brown sugar in the hole.
the trouble is whatever place harvested them , all the stems were broken off. If you leave just an inch of stem they will last for several months. Without the stems I will have to watch them and if they start going soft in a few weeks I'll have to process and freeze them That's not all that bad a thing as they will then be ready to eat just by microwaving them but I prefer to store them without using up the freezer space.
Anyway , the produce guys should know better than to take the stems off. Who knows , maybe that's why they were 29 cents a pound.
