Boys & Girls,

I am working with a tackle shop to place a custom order with Pradco to get this color made. If there are enough people interested and will buy them the shop will order them. A custom color order is 600 pieces.

These are the 1 1/2oz Bomber with two hooks. You know, the ones you always use....

So let's here it. Who is interested and how many would you take (be honest)?

Me, I'll take 50 to start.

Tattoo - you should talk to that shop about becoming a sponsor to the site :D - we'll tawk... :laughs:

Oh yeh - and I may be interested in some but probably half a dozen to a dozen max...

I have a pretty good supply of the 16A "burple" but I guess I'd be interested in a half-dozen or so 17As.

Put me in for 10.

Mike - any way it would be easier/cheaper if we ordered them without hooks and split rings?

I will have more information in a day or so.

But keep the info coming....

TATTOO,

1) Put me down for a dozen.

2) Please make sure you let me know when you are releasing the next batch of your own stuff.

3) finally, once you get a price on the bombers let me know. I do the ordering the MSBA raffle tables and might want some for the club also, but I need the price first

Maybe I wrote the thread wrong, maybe you read it wrong....

Here is the deal,

ALOT of people want the 17A in black and purple.
The minimum order is 600 pieces.
I can't buy them because I am not a tackle shop.
I asked my local shop if they would do it, they said yes but want to see some interest before laying out the cash....Thats a lot of lures to eat for breakfast if they don't sell.

I am not making any money on these.

I just want my black and purple 17A just like the next guy. :D

In addition, it's one more thing that the shop will have that no one else does. Good for business.

Black and purple is also known as black and violet for those who are anal retentive in regards to color.

P.S. They got ordered today. Should be delivered in 4 - 5 weeks.

Once they come in, I'll let the world know where to get them....after I get my stash of course.

Hay guys!
Well Im new to this board and I would like to first thank Tattoo for turnning me on to it. Its GREAT! Looks like a great group of hardcore fisherman just willing to share info about everything from line to turning plugs without all the whining. Also I would like to add that I help run the store in Newport RI that will have these plugs. Like tattoo said, I thought it would be great to bring a plug back to guys like yourselves that hasn't been available since 1985. I have placed the order and they are about 4-6 weeks out. There will be plenty to go around and I've also seen a few post of guys wanting 50 plus plugs and some wanting 6 plugs. It a lot of plugs for a store to take all at once If your a small store in Newport RI. If I know guys want it I'll get them and Its done. Here's the deal! Any orders for 24 or more get 10% off. Seeing that the stuff is bought from guys all over the place you can save on our special order shipping as well. Anything over $50.00 will ship free and out of state purchase pay no tax. The plugs will be $8.99. I would also like to mention that thru the last year or so I have seen an amazing demand in quality surf tackle right here in Newport. We have a few great bait shops in the area but no one is selling great surf tackle like say Cove Edge from that past from Watch Hill. We at the Saltwater Edge will be expanding our entire store to allow for some of the things that surf anglers on the island or anywhere in the area have to drive 45min away to get. We will have Super Strike,HABS,Charlie Graves Tins,NJ Tackle Eel Skin Heads and tins, some of Tattoos stuff,Gibbs,Lamiglas, and much more. Well guys the order is in and we would love to have you stop by the store sometime. We are not only a full service saltwater fly shop but we do sell surf fishing tackle as well. Thanks for the inquries and the goods are inbound. If you don't hear from me tattoo will let you guys know when there available and you'll be able to get them thru the website or call 1-866-SWE-Orders or 1-401-842-0062 or swing by the store.
Thanks Corey

Corey - welcome to Striped-Bass :btu:

I'm John, I'm addicted to fishing, and I started this site just about 4 years ago.

I've heard both some good words about your shop and that you are expanding your surfcasting gear. I'll be in to talk to you over the next couple weeks.

Thanks,

John

I agree with Krispy. 9 bucks is a little high for a bomber.. I pay 6 bucks a piece. Now, I understand that this is a custom order but if I am buying say 15 plugs I don't get a discount and shell out about 135 bucks. Can someone explain if there is a custom color charge which could justify the 9 dollar price tag.

U should Be paying around 5.50 per plug

Guys, this is the Long bomber, not the smaller 3 hook one. And the store is in Newport;) It may be a bit overpriced, but where else are you gonna find one?

03-27-2003, 07:40 PM
lets see now if I have this right,,,someone is getting somewhere in the naba hood of 50 or so plugs for say x number of $[cost] that means the remaining plugs to be sold have to pick up the lost profit from those, so the remaining plugs get bumped up in price to cover the cost of the ones given away....how am I doin so far??
I'll pass.

Tattoo
03-27-2003, 08:01 PM
CapeSams,

Wrong! I pay the same price as the rest of us and have no problem doing that.

The plugs cost over $5.50 EACH because it's a special order, add shipping to that, the cost and fear of putting up the money for 600 of these things and I think $8.99 is a damn fair price.

If you or anyone else don't like it (the price), don't buy it, or complain about it.

Can someone find another tackle shop in the area willing to dish out over $3000 bucks for a special order, probally not.

capesams
03-27-2003, 08:51 PM
sorry I had to put that in the way I did, but people wanted to know an no one was talking....or telling,,,,,a simple explination of cost would have gone over better don't u think.

ahh, another price debate for plugs. funny, this comes up too often. i see guys blow upwards of $20-$30 on unproven plugs that just look nice. i see guys blow $15-$20 like nothing on plugs that are proven. now, we get a lure that has been out of production for many years, from a company's lure design that is proven as a fish catcher, in a color that is in high demand and proven as well. sure, you can get 17a bombers for around $6-7 each usually, but try and find this color around? let's see, an extra $2-$3 possibly for a proven plug and color that's not available anywhere. i have no problem coughing up the coin for 1-2 dozen. you might have the chance to get these again, but you might not. if it's too much money for you, go buy a mambo in the same color and let me know how you make out after the thing breaks.

Guys,
Well as far as being in Newport and over priced maybe on some things like bucktails and clothing. ALL rods/reels are mostly set at an MSRP and thats it. Unless its dicountinued you cant really have it one sale. And as far as the plugs go. Tattoo is right, for a 5% upcharge on the plug being special color its pricy. I want to work with everyone and Im open to suggestions on price. I think $8.99 is fair for a plug you may never see or be able to fish again. We dont want to get rich on these we want to give some of the guys who fish the Newport areas and elsewhere something back for being great customers. Again, Im open for suggestions and willing to work on pricing If I get comittment. Thanks guys!:D

woah woah woah.. why are people getting so defensive about this. I simply asked to provide a valid reason why the plugs were 9 bones each.. Seawolf, you don't need to come in and act all condescending with regards to saying if you don't like it buy a mambo....that's great that your willing to pay 9 bucks for this plug. I just wanted to know what warranted the price increase (now I know that there is a special order fee when getting a custom color.) That is all that I needed to know, plain and simple, and yes I know that this certain color produces time and time again.

.....what da fudge!!:smash:

.....you guys NEED to fish bad!!!

.....solution:

Get a bungee cord
attach to a closet doorknob
sit across room with lure attached to bungee cord
slightly untighten the drag
set the hook and reel the sucka in for an hour or two

Great Therapy-

just don't get caught doing it...:laughs:

WALDO,

I was the one that started the "defensiveness" not seawolf.

Here is the definition of "custom"

adj.
Made to order.
Specializing in the making or selling of made-to-order goods: a custom tailor.

If you guys dont think you will pay more for something "made to order" then maybe you shouldn't be buying them.

It doesnt get any more simple than that.

Hay guys I'll be putting them on the SWE site as soon as they get here and I'll be putting a post up as well to let you know the day they arrive. $8.99 for the plugs, it seem fair after talking to a few guys at the Antique Tackle show in Smithfield RI this morning. I found it funny that after walking around a group of tackle collectors I didn't see one plug like that. Plenty of Reverse Atoms and old Gibb's. Maybe they are as illusive as we all think. There 3-5 weeks away. Also thanks for the input guys. It wont be long now.
