View Full Version : So As The Season Winds Down........
BigFish 10-23-2010, 10:25 AM What plans do you all have for the November to April time frame??? House projects, ice fishing, hunting, vacations, plug building, rod wrapping??? Any purchases over the winter geared toward improving next season?? How will you fill the void??:)
striperman36 10-23-2010, 10:27 AM I am goin to go ice fishing again, haven't been in at least 15 years, since 1995 when I go frostbit.
Redo the workshop. Build some furniture.
numbskull 10-23-2010, 10:29 AM Probably I'll just spend it getting into fights and insulting people on line, just like everyone else.
Bronko 10-23-2010, 10:38 AM I doubt it George, you seem to be too nice of a guy for that.
I think I may pick up another 1205 this winter and depending on gift certificates around the holidays....possibly another VS..? We shall see. My main goal will be enjoying my family.:)
JohnnyD 10-23-2010, 10:42 AM Trout until the cape ponds ice over, got a Rainshadow 1208 to tie up as my heavy tin and jigging rod, couple small projects around the apartment for the misses, pimp out my bike for the canal as I'm sick of walking.
Other than that, I have a couple of small business projects to try out, but I'll probably just go into hibernation like I do every winter.
MAKAI 10-23-2010, 12:11 PM Getting buff, the iron awaits me.:musc:
zimmy 10-23-2010, 12:40 PM fishing for stripers (minus January). Wrapping an all-star 1209. grad work, wife and kids should own the rest of my time :)

basswipe 10-23-2010, 01:35 PM The only thing left undone since the Spring flood is the basement floor.
I will be epoxying the basement floor.Going with the good industrial sh!t. It'll have be done in sections and on Fri. nights so that I will get the full 72hour cure time so that Jane can walk on it to get to her office Monday mornings.

chefchris401 10-23-2010, 05:12 PM My main goal is to lose weight and get in shape, need to drop some serious pounds.
Makes it tough when your a chef and around food all day and have to taste things.
Besides that, work on some plugs that didn't come out the way I hoped.
Build a killer needle.
Spend time with the girl and the dogs and work as much as possible and pay off some debt.

RickBomba 10-24-2010, 12:44 PM TABBIT! I've been scoping a date. I'm thinking either the 15th or the 22nd of January. Any preferences as to which date. Does anybody think that MLK wekend will interfere with too many folks family time?
Speaking of which, this year's tourney looks to be REALLY BIG! I think we'll keep the same entry fee ($15) and keep the food simpler. Seems like the Dunks and sausages are the way to go.
Any ideas?
And, I think that I'm going to do a 50/50 casting distance competition with the proceeds going to the site, as it has endorsed us for the last few years and I haven't given back yet.
Later,
Bomba

nightfighter 10-24-2010, 05:22 PM It has begun...... Pulled the boat today, sitting out in front of the house. Took off rods, nets, gaffs, and electronics. Empty the rest and powerwash this week. Then winterize and cover.
Boat needs new fuel gauge sender. Would like to get new GPS/sounder. Maybe another live baitwell. Put on a T-top if I hit the lottery.
Get my gear more organized. Get lathe up and running, it's a Shopsmith. Build a booth for painting plugs. Sell some reels, and maybe all my tuna gear. Have a rod wrapper and fly vice that I've hardly used..... Get a gross of hooks to replace the rusty collection I have. Get a Daiwa Saltiga 30H lefty.
Have to reframe and install a new main entry door and new construction window. Then there are cabinets and a pantry to be built for the house. Demo and rebuild what I use for an office (currently in total disorganization...) Guess it's a good thing I pulled the boat so "early":grins:
Oh and she wants her garage space back... that's a full day project.
Striper_Haven_03 10-24-2010, 05:33 PM Spitting firewood for next year. Have 4 cords on the ground that need to be bucked and split. Need to buy a log-splitter as I am getting too lazy to hand split 3-4 cords a year. If Cali. doesnt burn this Nov-Jan plan on taking the wife to Costa Rica as a college graduation present, but the damn fires always screw with my plans.
Billwetzel 10-24-2010, 06:25 PM We just maybe going well into December this year in Montauk?? Water temps are pretty warm and we still have lots of bait around that is usually gone by now. Keep on fishin!! :uhuh:

Building a new sled to ice fish based on dog sleds. Got skiis, will modify. Build some Conrads, small dannys, Canal specials. Work on my gear, belt to hold tools, etc. Marry off the Daughter at the end of January. The usual..
Swimmer 10-24-2010, 06:40 PM Split four cords of wood and stack it, get everything left in the garden inside (beets, some beens, peppers), have two rooms to do over for the wife, build spray booth, finish the celler cleanup/do over, find leak in a couple of pair of waders, make plugs, fix three rods that suffered fishing the canal this summer. Wrap a new SSU blank I have, dig out all the compost inside the bin (which is about eight feet across), start a brand new compost bin, new steps in the buldhead, first tearing out the crappy sheetrock and strapping the builder put in place 30 years ago, Start a regular regimen at the Y around the corner...........................and blah blah blah. Thats enough for now.
Jimmy Fee 10-24-2010, 07:21 PM Freshwater, Florida, Steel and Sportsman's Shows
Rockfish9 10-25-2010, 07:40 AM I'm ahead of the game, boats put away, gear is cleaned and stowed, I applied winter gaurd to the lawn and tilled , mulched and limed the garden... I've got to wrap a new blank if I find one I like to replace one I broke on the last trip of the season...
I've got to trap more shiners for Ice fishing..
I've allready picked up where I left off last April with my plugs, I epoxied a mixed dozen Slope heads and conrads for the spring run( a year late)... took a few to get my paint skills back ( I HATE painting) ... I've got a bunch of Pikies for a swap I need to Epoxy.. when I get these done, I want to make some predators and a large batch of the Pinkney inspired sand eel plugs that have been hot for the last two seasons...
Hopefully ice fishing by late December.... then count the days until plugfest!

Hey Nightfighter...I just set up my Dad's Shopsmith that he bought in 1956. I got it about 10 years ago but have never plugged it in. It has a bunch of extra stuff with it and I'm really looking forward to getting some projects going with it. So far have just sharpened a bunch of tools.
