The British are cutting social services and jobs in the public sector. They realized that spending their way out of problems, bailing out businesses and supporting the useless citizens just isn't going to work.

Only a matter of time before similar actions happen here.

Half of the Frigates and destroyers scrapped.

Jobs program to build one or two new carriers to continue.
Move to a near one dimensional navy.

These are cuts for the next 5 year - expect significant more in 2015.

There goes the British Navy.............

it makes sense. They have us as their major ally for naval support.
Air power and missles dominate the sea.

Funny - I watched the sinking of the Bismark last night on the military channel, one of my favorite naval battles/stories.

Until the Argentinians decide Falklans/Malvinas Act Tres is in order and the US also sits that one out on the fence ('cept for a little back door intel).

Also, seeing that Pax Americana (a/k/a US Navy providing freedom of commerce for all nations on the seas) is getting cut off at the knees, we may not be able (or willing) to help them, OR keep the sea lanes open.

And in France, union "workers" are rioting because in that country, in an attempt to reduce crippling deficits, the government is talking about raising the retirement age...TO 62!! (from 60).

To repeat...France wants to tell people they can retire with full benefits at 62, and the populace responds by rioting. This is what happens when a citizenry gets addicted to a sense of welfare, which is precisely what the Messiah Obama is trying to do here.

Western European socialism does not work, it can not work. Those countries are going bankrupt, and they don't even allow significant immigration. Imagine how broke those countries would be if, like us, they allowed millions of penniless immigrants to enter.

Britain and the EU are just the start, we'll be looking at that stuff soon enough.

Anybody know how long you have to live in France before you qualify for full pension at 62? I may need to start looking at real estate soon

I assume you mean ILLEGAL Immigrants.....considering that allowing penniless immigrants into this country, and working hard to make it, is what made this country great in the 1st place.

I agree, but...
In today's world, tell me what encourages penniless legal immigrants that come to this country to work?

Because what they can make here is significantly more than what they make at home.
