I am going to attend the Mid Atlantic Fisheries Management Council meetings in VA Beach next week to advocate for improved regulations for the Mackerel Fleet (small mesh dragers and mid water trawlers). I have 1 day and a couple afternoons to...play. I've fished in this area after January 1 but not this early. IF anyone has any info that might help me wet a line. I'm all ears. Pm's will stay private as well.
Thanks

From what I hear, you want to be boat fishing way out in the EEZ.
(Sorry, sadly probably true)

Dont listen to the Nonsense that its too early from people that strictly go by internet reports. The big fish have been down there since the end of november, there have been many 40's and 50's killed already. The Bay is it til Dec 31, Nobody ventures out beyond 3 miles until that temp falls, pushes all the bait fish outside and south.... Its been a better start down there than a few previous years... Ill take the month of December over Jan / Feb down there any day unless you like the trolling game..

Cowhunter is right. We're still seeing big fish full of sea lice in the middle bay area. They are around. Do a little searching around Back Bay and you'll find some big reds there as well as stripers.
