I agree that Tobacco companies are evil, but this does not make sence to me. $81M to one persons family who died from smoking? Am I worng to think this is a bit extreme?

Tobacco company ordered to pay $81m in punitive damages to Roxbury woman's estate (http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2010/12/tobacco_company.html?p1=News_links)

Not that there is a price on life, but there's one thing to provide a couple million to the family, it's a whole other thing to give $81M.

It's ridiculous settlements like this that help our health care costs skyrocket.

Here's the best part:
William Evans, a Harvard Law School graduate who has spent years battling the tobacco company, wept and hugged one of his attorneys when the punitive damages were announced this afternoon.

Of course they wept, they just leveraged a dead woman into probably $10million+ in revenue for their legal fees.

..........tobacco juice (nicotine) is an insecticide

.....600, 000 people have died just from second hand smoke

..........it is sold on every commercial street corner

....strangely, people that smoke do not think
.....a cigarette butt is trash

...........yet it is full of the filtered out ....nicotine

..........the butts will last over a hundred years

an injection of pure nicotine will kill you in a matter of seconds from just 2 1/2 cigarettes
