Basically until things change its 1 tuna 27"-73" for angling no trophy.
big jay 12-21-2010, 05:51 AM I really hope this just stays right where it is. No screwing around with slot limits, one under/one over, or any of that other happy horsecrap.
One fish a day is not going to hurt the species at all, and its enough take home fish to keep everyone happy.
keeperreaper 12-21-2010, 07:45 AM I agree. This is a good decision.
PRBuzz 12-21-2010, 08:57 AM I agree. This is a good decision.
me too. My 1 tuna/year definitely doesn't hurt the popluation so I like to make it a big'un!
Raider Ronnie 12-21-2010, 05:58 PM January 1 through January 31, 2011.
Got a notice in the mail last week.
2 commercial fish now for Jan 1 - jan 31 also.
This is just to figure out where the stocks are.
Most likely will not be the regs for next year.
keeperreaper 12-21-2010, 06:04 PM Ronnie I agree that they always throw the deuce at us right before it starts but May fishing should hold these regs. Watch and see.
big jay 12-21-2010, 08:31 PM I never understand why they cut the commercial daily take late in the winter and then act surprised when the quota isn't reached.
The gen cat runs under a hard TAC for the season - the daily limits are only supposed to be in effect to make sure the season stretches and the market doesn't flood.
There is no way in hell the winter guys are going to flood the market - let it run until the quota is reached and then shut it down. Let the Southern boys actually go catch on the few days that they can get out.
When I was in High School we barely made it past mid September, this over-managing though the winter is freaking ridiculous.
Sea Flat 12-22-2010, 01:14 PM The funny thing is that most of the fish early last season were right around that 70" range. I would think that when they come back in June that most will be over 73".
I do not mind either way, I will just have to wait until the smaller fish are more prevalent.
clcharette 12-29-2010, 09:27 PM If they stay this way we will be very fortunate.

Plan on a change 11 days after permits.... Same old BS.
kippy 12-31-2010, 10:24 PM I hope it stays this way, but we'll see

Great read. Thanks
StriperZ 02-05-2011, 02:53 PM Who needs more than one tuna per day recreationally?
JohnnyD 02-05-2011, 11:20 PM Who needs more than one tuna per day recreationally?
No one.

Recreationally: who needs more than one per week. 50-72"?

Nothing bad about it if you do it right. Our freezer is full. Sushi is always thawed out tuna.

Agreed. I've had steaks that were vacuum sealed and 9 months old. While definitely not as good as completely fresh, it was still better than the stuff you buy at the supermarket.
Wipe down the steaks, vacuum seal them right away and into the back of the freezer. It's nice to enjoy good fish during the winter.

Don't credit me... just wisdom I've absorbed from those much better than I am.
ecduzitgood 02-07-2011, 11:19 PM Take the frozen fish out of the bags and place in a colander to thaw and it will taste fresh again. Might have something to do with the air getting at all sides while it thaws, it works try it.
