Piscator 12-21-2010, 09:34 PM It's impressive even though I'm not a big fan of that sport (men, women, college, pro) or otherwise. It's at least sport #4 for me Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device luds 12-21-2010, 10:59 PM I'm about as interested in it as I am the WNBA. Sexist?....probably but I haven't bothered to watch one of their games and I don't plan to though I do think the streak is impressive. Piscator 12-22-2010, 08:23 AM In a related story, the Bangladesh Junior National Ping Pong team hasn't lost since Forest Gump beat them in 1970 :) Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device ProfessorM 12-22-2010, 10:33 AM nothing more boring than watching any sporting event that is lopsided as so many of their games are, good for them but boring imo. fishsmith 12-22-2010, 11:34 AM It's an amazing record, but like the posts above, it's womens basketball, and there is little interest. The game was on ESPN3, wherever that is on the dial. If it was Mens NCAA Div. 1, it's all we'd hear about on ESPN (when they can't fit in the mandatory 'Brett Farve' talk). MarshCappa 12-22-2010, 02:45 PM Very impressive. Mike P 12-22-2010, 05:47 PM It's an amazing record, but like the posts above, it's womens basketball, and there is little interest. You'll never see another Div. 1 men's team even come close to an 88 game streak. 4 year starters are as extinct as the do-do. PaulS 12-22-2010, 06:46 PM It's a great accomplishment. One of my sisters started as a freshman for the Husky's. Her knee was ruined in a bus rollover. PRBuzz 12-22-2010, 08:06 PM It's a great accomplishment. One of my sisters started as a freshman for the Husky's. Her knee was ruined in a bus rollover. My daughter follows that team like she was one of them (no matter how boring the 30 point wins). She has the '02-'03 team book autographed by the entire team. We even drove over to witness the championship parade in Hartford last year. I quizzed my daughter on who your daughter might be and she came up with player named Kristen? stcroixman 12-22-2010, 08:09 PM It is not as impressive as the 88 games the Walton Gang won in '70's Womens teams aren't as good on average as men's teams. I mean that respectfully too, I am not biased against women's sports. JohnnyD 12-22-2010, 11:00 PM One of the most exciting sports moments for me was when I was attending UConn when the Men's and Women's teams won in the same year. After leaving though, it's tough to get excited about team that typically wins games by 50 points or more. So is a team, any team that is so dominant supposed to lower their standards to the level of the competition? The Pats surely don't have that philiosophy: it is up to the other team to stop them from scoring touchdowns even if the score is 50 - 3 at halftime! luds 12-23-2010, 09:24 AM So is a team, any team that is so dominant supposed to lower their standards to the level of the competition? Definitely not but I think his point is that it's not worth tuning in if you already know what the outcome will be. I think we all thinks it's an impressive accomplishment but still a waist of time to watch it happen. Piscator 12-23-2010, 01:13 PM Unfortunately, the bigger story might be who they eventually loose too, especially if it's a big game. After all, we wouldn’t be talking about the 1980 Miracle if the Russians weren’t so dominant. The only time I personally follow women sports are during the Olympics (when it's on National TV). I have 2 young girls so I'm sure that will change soon enough. PRBuzz 12-23-2010, 01:29 PM Next big game comes against Stanford at Stanford, 12/30! Although Stanford lost to Tenn last week, they are considered to be the streak breaker. Piscator 12-23-2010, 01:55 PM Buzz, was just reading the sports section of the globe and saw this. Thought you and your daughter would enjoy. Oh man, can’t we all salute these women? - The Boston Globe (http://www.boston.com/sports/colleges/womens_basketball/articles/2010/12/23/oh_man_cant_we_all_salute_these_women/?p1=News_links) PaulS 12-23-2010, 02:12 PM I quizzed my daughter on who your daughter might be and she came up with player named Kristen? No, I think that was Kristen Stewart maybe??? A guard from Colorado. My sister would have been a Sr. during Geno's first year so your daughter wouldn't know her name. She was all state 1st. team Jr. year in HS, went to Greece over the summer and was in a bus accident where the bus rolled over 3 times. Had crappy surgery and the knee kept giving out. Made 1st. team all state again Sr. year. Had full offers at places like Southern Ct, Sacred Heart and went to UConn. Quit after Fr. year. Bad knees and too many lesbians on the team. The story isn't as good now that I had to expand on in.:) To me they are different streaks and both remarkable in their own right. One thing that impressed me was the UCLA players who to a man praised the accomplishment - unlike the Dolphin players who get together and celebrate every time a team loses who they think will go undefeated. luds 12-23-2010, 05:12 PM No, I think that was Kristen Stewart maybe???
